thats how it goes... i beat the p00 out of my 350 in my k5, I put a rebuilt carb on it and was putting around the backyard and rod went threw the block about 3000 rpm haha. ==dunno
lots of miles ??? meybe the old girl just wore out ???
im just surprised my cylinder walls are f"ed up and the heads are fine. anyone know were a good set of rods and pistons are let me know lol. she is getting completely revamped
IMO odd that it happened to two pistons. Maybe just old or most likely, a lean fuel condition combined with to much advance in timing. Too little top ring endgap combined with the lean or out of time will cause the top ring land to break off. Kinda weird to happen to an old (high mi) engine. Carb. change or timing adjust recently?
Recently bought a rebuilt 350 (should have done it myself). 3500 miles in it started missing BAD. Pulled plugs, 3 were smashed. 3 brand new hyper pistons had broken off the top ring lands due to too little ring endgap. Looked just like yours.
no timeing or carb work for a year didnt have a problem at all. no symptoms or anything. just bam then it was done.
It happens. They all go out with one bang or another eventually.
since i have it all pulled out and apart and suggestions for block color?? i may just go back with chevy orange but am open for suggestions. still need to find some good pistons though everything else is ready to go.
GRABBER GREEN!!!!
i like painting my blocks either red or black personally, think orange is way to over done
black radiates heat off it faster.
also lighter colors make for finding leaks a lil easier
i cant do grabber green there are 3 idiot kids running around my town with grabber green trucks the 3 idiots have a bad rep for tearing up other peoples property and i dont want to be mistaken for one of them, lord knows i dont need the extra attention and a ticket. i wanna incorporate the block in with the paint scheme of my truck so grabber green is a no go. love the color but do to the situation i cant do the green.
ahhhh the joys of cast pistons......sucks tho
well if u had a grabber green motor who would see it?
