ok so im planning on moving my radiator to the back of my explorer and my plan was to build a square tube frame for it i have a nice aluminum 4 core radiator that was in the truck and i planned on running one or two electric fans but idk wat kind i shud get also wanted to build a shroud for it outta some aluminum diamond plate i know people say use exhaust tubing for the plumbin to the rear but is there any other type of rubber hose that could stand up to the pressure and heat from the coolant?? and wat is the easiest way to run it??
second thing i want to do is move tranny cooler to the back just so it doesnt get caked up with mud but ive heard to use a ac conditioner unit?? a friend of mine has a whole serp setup in a pickup he has idk if it has ac condenser unit but im sure it does but ive heard its better to run a serp then a vbelt but idk why??
and also another very important thing i ned to do is run air filter into the truck ive been told to get a intake off of a late 90s 4.3 blazer and run flex hose from it and get a cone filter??
i need someone to summarize this for me and also i want to put rockwells in it this spring so wat all shud i need for this?
lets see...
steel tubing is cheaper than rubber, electric fans shouldnt need a shroud, an ac condensor is the thing in front of the radiator, not the ac compressor, which is part of the serpentine set-up you were refering, and i have never run the air filter inside the truck, but sounds like a good idea
doing the same thing to our truck and using a ac condensor with its own fan
V belt setup works fine up to 6500 rpm range. I personally think the ac condenser is overkill for the tranny cooler. Get a cooler/fan setup of ebay I've seen them for 65$
If you use the muffler pipe I used old hoses for the bends and it worked perfectly.

mabe so but ford tranys like to catch on fire lol
alredy have a condenser sooo ill use it
I just went through all of this...I went with 1 1/2 steel tubing, that was already bent because woody hooked me up...then I used assorted radiator hoses to hook everything up. I have an aluminum 4 core with built in trans cooler, but I've heard a/c condensors work too. Make sure you mout the radiator so it has some give, I mounted mine to angle steel that was bolted to the bed through rubber mounts for give. I used the old shroud from the front of the truck, and modified it a bit. I recommend a shroud. Just fitting the shroud up tight made my truck run about 20 degrees cooler than without the shroud. Also make sure you get all the air out of the motor and hoses, this will make or break the cooling system. I filled the radiator with the plug removed from the top of the water pump, replaced the plug when coolant started coming out, and then filled until it came out of the thermostat housing. I then filled the return hose from the engine end before attaching it and topping off the radiator. worked like a charm. one more thing. make sure your radiator cap is the highest point in the coolant system, and have a plan for overflow. look at the rusted reject build thread for ideas...mine isn't the best, but it works. at least it did idling in the driveway for an hour in 95 degree weather.
v belts have more of a tendancy to slip, but just make sure they are in good shape and have good tension. I ran my air filter through the hood and ran a cover so water would have to go up and over to get back down in...I presonally don't like air filters in the cab, because if you backfire through the intake guess where the fire ends up. JMO though lots of people do it that way.you could run PVC pipe wherever you want it to be.
i plan on running k and n they stop backfires
def put a shroud on the fans. or they suck around, instead of through, which cools it. find some electric fans off a car, already put together for ya, with a shroud, maybe save some time ???
also i would put some type of barrier between the radiator/trans cooler and the passenger area, if something happens, ya dont wanna burn you or anyone else. plexiglass maybe, so you can still see out, and its pretty much indestructible...

i was thinking the same exact thing build suin that goes around radiator
Use 1.5" exhaust pipe (straight) to go the distance you need... use universal radiator hoses to make up the bends where you need. I have not had any issues with my system and have under $50 in the entire plumbing set up. Also, make sure you use a shroud to pull across the entire core.
