Title: Noob question: dipstick tube...
Post by: Yankee Hick on September 03, 2011, 02:35:36 PM
how do you get one out of the block?  when i got this motor, the tube was broken off at the base of the head, so i obviously need to replace it.  how do i go about doing that?  do i need to tap it out from the bottom end?

next question.... how do i know what size of new one to get?!

thanks, Cory.  now, how do i choose the correct replacement one?  do they have certain part numbers, or is it universal?  i would think O'Reilly or Advance would have a replacement part for it.

sweet!  thanks!!!

this motor will be so nice when it gets in:
355 sbc
stock 350 heads (reworked with new valves and springs)
.465 cam
Holly 600cfm carb

my first project motor, so i know it's not much compared to some of ya'll's, but i'm still excited to drop it in.

PB Blast it first, then stick a phillips screwdriver in it that fits pretty close, wrap a rag around it and clamp your vice-grips on and twist back and forth and pull at the same time. Not much twist, and lots of pull, and wiggle it just a little bit.  ;D

wow, didn't even have to pull the pan!  just grabbed onto the remaining part of the tube connected to the block (next to the base of the head), twisted and pulled!  derrrrr!!!!!  i know, i know.....  i'm a NOOB!
