i have a chance to buy one. stock and running, is it worth anything? or whats it even worth? i dont know what kinda vehicle it came out of because right now its on a TO-20 massey ferguson tractor. but it starts up and runs just fine on that tractor, drove the tractor on the trailer today.
Not something I would put in a bogger or anything but a good motor. Dependable.
lol i told him that too. but me and dad were thinking for the willys jeep
the 283's were the toughest sbc's ever built, i have seen them spin 8k plus and not even flinch, if i had a chance to get one i wouldn't even think twice about it, i've ran them before and their a lot of fun in lighter vehicles, don't let the displacement fool ya, their serious motors
hmmm i know they lovs rpm's. but how much is a good running one worth? cause i have no idea what so ever
if it's a good running 283 with no issues at all a couple hundred is no surprise, if it has any work done to it than the price can go up quick...
for me right now a couple hundred is outta the question. i think ill have to pass on it then
what are they asking for it?

Its a screamin demon buy it now. Cant go wrong. Dont let anybody tell ya theyre weak or only put it in a little truck, I had a 60 chevy short narrow with a built 283 that would pull the front wheels off the ground no problem. Endless RPM, love the sound of them. Get it before somebody else does, theyre gettin few and far between!

why take it off there they are good engines get the casting ####s and i can tell ya what its out of
Wow i dont know what some of you are talking about. Those 283's were one of chevys best built small blocks ever. The 283 was the first motor ever to make 1.2 horse power for every cubic inch. Back in the days racers would fight over those motor's! Quick head work, cam, bigger carb, and open headers and that little basterd would shoot over 330 horse real quick! and they love to eat up rpm's. They are worth quite a bit if you can find a all original numbers matching motor.
well today we went over to steves to help him out with it. my dad bought it today for $200 for the willys. gunna be fun with that lil jeep ;D he plans on making it a bogger playtoy so ill keep you guys updated when he starts on it if ya want.
Yup I wanna watch that thread for sure
