Title: 96 Jimmy
Post by: JcKinney on September 06, 2011, 05:23:47 AM
Ok everytime I think about sellin this, I wish I could get it done more. I got this 96 jimmy gutted down to a shell now, want to make it into a bogger. I've got a k5 blazer sitting around that I was going to throw this body ontop of that frame, but I'm new to this and keep running into problems. The biggest problem is I'm mainly on my own all the time, and have no clue what I'm doing. I've heard just go sas and I've heard drop it on the k5 frame. So as it sits now it's just the body on the frame, with 4 bolts left in it holding it to the frame, but I can't get them out. The k5 is still complete. Plan for that was to just unbolt the body from the frame and take it to the scrap yard and just have them pull it right off the trailer leaving the frame, but the bolts in the k5 body won't come out either. Any suggestions? I don't have access to a hoist to lift the body off, so I'm not sure how I'm gonna do that yet either.

I've also got a cast on my leg till oct, which makes it a little bit harder to do stuff  loll

I can get you pics later today. I think they're power doors, I can't remember I picked it up from a friend. I know the gate was power cuz the window is half up and stuck that way.

use blocks of wood and a jack to get the body up to roll the new frame under when the time comes

Ok my g/f's brother helped me out yesterday and cut off all the body bolts from the blazer. Got 3 bolts left on the jimmy, but outta oxygen, so probably today. As far as that k5 body goes, it's not in real good  shape anyway, maybe the front fenders and hood are saveable, but the inner fenders are junk, as most the restof the body. Doors are power and gate was power. Gate is rotted, doors aren't that great. Hope to have the k5 loaded on the trailer and on the way to the scrapyard by sat.

Gonna take that advice about blockin the body up, will a couple 4x4's hold the weight across on top of like cinder blocks? Gotta space it out far enough to get the width of the wheels out from under it.

yea they will thats how ive done it before i have also seen some one take old truck camper jacks and bolt them to the 4x4s and that way you can raise it and lower it as needed

i used 2 55 gallon drums and a engine hoist (puller) with a strap or chain barrels in rear and hoist in front and another truck to pull frame oout and push new under it
worked awsome and was easy
