planning on trading for one this weekend its stock height now i want to get a set of the 36 or 37 military tires and im curious how much lift i will need and where to get a lift from bronco grave yard wants almost a grand for a 6 inch kit

A real Highboy will fit 35's. buddy had one. Only rubbed if you are at hard turns on hard angles.
A real highboy should clear 38s, it was a factory option

Wow are you ever so wrong! Ford offered up to a 34" tires TOPS depending on what GVW/tire combination you ordered from the factory. 34's were as big as ford would go. You could fit bigger but 35's and up were pushing it on the breaking point of the front axle. From the factory almost all highboys stock came with a skinny 235 (somehwere in there) 16'' split rim. Anything over had to be special ordered.

what are your plans with it street truck or mud truck ?

im actually undecided if i wanna turn it into a bogger or if im going to tow my 78 bronco with it / drive it everyday dont really care about gas mileage . plan is to lift it enough to clear the 36's dual flows and stacks this is the truck
If thats a true highboy there will be factory lift blocks in the rear springs and the front leafs will be arched.
Buddys dad told me and him when he bough his truck brand new in 73 he had the option of 38s on 16.5x8 wagons or 16 snap ring rims with snow tires, he chose the snow tires

unless it was a personal dealer that had a set in stock that his dealership was offering Im sorry to say but thats not true. Not ragging on you or anything but just telling ya what Ford really offered. your more than welcome to do research on this. (best way to learn stuff). Thats how I learned.

If it was me i would restore it and enjoy it for many many years to come! You can still play with it but Id never fully turn her into a bogger. Way to many old trucks now are gone because of the sport.

it dosnt have to be a diesel to have stacks haha well after a 6 hour journey 1 blown tires 1 left front brake locking up and the timing cover pooring oil then the nice friend with the tow truck came it finally got home needs wind sheild clutch one cab mount repaired possibly front end work it has a closed knuckle front end never worked on one yet
Sounds like you found yourself a good project though. Hope to see pics of it as you make progress!

To each their own, I'm not a big fan of stacks on diesels or gas...cool project, its yours make it yours!
Stacks look good on some trucks, I personalyy want a set of 8" bullhorns for my truck but they cost a pertty penny
