When I did mine I googled wiring diagram for 87 chevy tbi (you put in your truck) and I found the gm service manual wiring diagrams, made it easy.

i also run a one-wire alternator, double j can make yours the same way pretty cheap. less wires is better.

when i push the botton for the starter it wont kick in, the starter works its brand new and i checked it with the jumpers and works fine,
i got the main big wire hooked up and i got the little wire hooked up they both have power goin to them to the starter, does the starter need a ground wire???

i got my neg on my bat. for ground but i did everything what the digram shows on this link http://www.allstarperformance.com/downloads/instruction_sheets//ALL80157_Battery_Disconnect_For_Alternator.pdf (http://www.allstarperformance.com/downloads/instruction_sheets//ALL80157_Battery_Disconnect_For_Alternator.pdf) but i still dont have my altnator hooked up yet could that be the problem i cant see why that would stop the starter from letting the motor to roll over??

you need grounds from the frame to the body and body to motor and frame to motor...
