Title: 1991 SAS questions?
Post by: Disturban on October 12, 2011, 04:11:39 AM
What axle would I need a Ford or Chevy? In 1991 did Chevy trucks use a different T-case drop vs solid axle trucks up to 1987 passenger drop or driver side drop? What parts will I need to do this swap, nothing crazy just want to run 33's maybe 35's, do I need a drop pitman arm, crossover steering, different steering box, ect. I already know I need and axle and leaf springs but not sure if I need a driver side drop or passenger side drop and how to tie in the steering and what steering components I will need?

I believe for it to bolt up to your transmission you will need a np208 from a 87-94 fullsize blazer or suburban ??? please dont quote me on that ==roll

the ifs chevys are driver side drop where the 87 and older are pass side drop could use ford front axle and keep your stock tcase

That is the answer I was looking for, I knew there was something about using a Ford axle doing this swap.

What else is needed as far as steering goes? Do I need a old straight axle truck steering box or can I use the one that is in the IFS truck now?

Does anyone make a kit that makes this swap simple?

yes you will need a ford axle cuz it is a drivers drop tcase, and for 35s a dana 44 should do just fine, mine holds up well

can use your stock steering box, an old solid axle one wouldnt bolt up at all, frame rails are totally different. just need a drop pitman arm from www.offroaddirect.com (http://www.offroaddirect.com) and that will get you setup for crossover steering

offroad direct seems to make the easiest kit to work with IMO. theres even online intructions if ya wanted to see how theirs goes together on their website too
