Start an account with snap on... and sign your life away!   Its expensive   hah!   Mac tools are made in china and taiwan... snap on is all made in usa!   Ive dropped over 2g in the last 2 months and still need a ton more!    Weekly payments are nice, makes that much debt not seem so bad!   First things i got were a good impact, and a good air hammer, best investment ever is the air hammer, life saver youll never pick up a regular hammer again!

I'm always looking for my hammer and ducktape... but then again I dont work in a repair shop ==roll

Id say top tools would be torque wrench, Hammer, saftey glasses, punches, impact gun and if you plan to work in michigan, torches and liquid wrench :)

Working on diesels and large equipment is a hole different ball game than cars and pickups, start out with the basics, end wrenches and sockets from1/4 up to 1 1/2, hammers, chisels and punches, die grinders, 1/2 and 3/4 impacts the list goes on. Buy what you can afford and you dont need a 10,000 dollar box to store tools in. I have about 18,000 dollars in tools to do my job and i keep them in a 500 dollar craftsman box. JMO

This all stated from a tire guy, you should see your rims when he is done. ==roll

Seriously, get a good impact, air hammer, and lots of wrenches, ratchets, sockest extensions, swivels etc.  a good meter goes a long way too.

Snapon tools have fed me my whole life, pretty good too lol, I will never buy anything other than snapon people say im wasting my money but o well its my money! My dads a diesel mechanic and has been for 20 yrs half of his box is nothing but custom made tools to get the job done, like stated all engines need alot of different tools, and my dad has a 30k box with about 100k worth of tools and still always needs somthing

20 year Diesel Mechanic... While I personally own mostly Snap-On tools, truth is, the vast majority of them work just as well as the next. I do not know a mechanic without a ton of ol' trusty Craftsman in their box. Get with your Snap-On dealer... they sell complete kits. You can get Class A, B, C, etc. they make kits geared toward Diesels.

Snap On Sells pre-made kits for Students. There is kit for Diesel Mechanics.  All the tools I got came in a Kit for being a GM Dealer Mechanic.
Talk with the Snap On Rep down there and He will/should know what to get you set up with.

I paid $2200 for all the the tools along with the box.  At the time it was 60% off retail for students.  But Talk with the Rep and he will know what to hook you up with.

if you go to unoh dale has tool shows which im sure youve probly been to.  he can answer your questions, just shop it out an make a list some tools are made more presist then others and may take more abuse.  also if you have a job lead, ask them what basic tools they recommend.
