Title: strange noise
Post by: 76 chevy shaker on October 23, 2011, 09:44:56 PM
hey guys i need some help. i just finished my motor rebuild got it put in and all that good stuff. i have a noise that is now louder with this motor then the previous motor. the noise wont occur is the tranny is in neutral. but it will do it while in gear and with the clutch pressed in. the noise happens also while driving at a steady speed, if i let off the gas the noise stops or if i gas it it stops. the noise is coming from around the firewall where the tranny and motor connect. the noise is hard to explain its a rapid lapping. when it is making noise and i leave my foot on the gas and maintains speed if i hit the clutch real quick the rpms stay the say and the noise goes away. when the noise happens the truck doesnt act weird shutter lose power or anything.

76 chevy 350 muncie 465 4 speed

if any one can tell me what this noise is id realy appreciate it.

i torqued everything down to specs. could it be the clutch work?? it was outta my old mud truck and was worn where the throw out bearing rubbed, its not much better then the fork that was on there to begin with the old fork had one of the tabs broke off. its done it on two motors about the time i changed trannys it started make the noise. it starts makeing the noise after everything has warmed up to normal temps. the faster i go the louder and qiucker the noice but at a stop the noice happens when i first start it up if its in gear as the starter is enguaged its got me baffeled. i tried to put one of the 3 prog pressure plates on but it wont clear so i had to go back to the multi prong pressure plates. it all started with the tranny and as my last motor got worse so did the noise but not the new motor is in i can hear it even better then befor.

i would suggest putting a new clutch pressure plate and throwot berring in it man, it really sounds like that's the issue
