i been learning as i hunt for past few years and every year i hate buying deer tags because it been confusing  usually i get the combo tag and i always have to get a buck w those tag but when reading tag i could do archery w doe  but then reading the booklet saying no i cant unless i m over at 487 dmu area  but then reading other section saying i can shoot buck any where in michigan i want to be able to obtain a doe tag in crawford area on a private land... and i havent got lucky on that one yet  i also read i should of mail application for doe permit   where hell is application?  so  now i thought of my class motto "if u ask u ll feel foolish for 5 minute and if u dont ask u re a fool" so that motto turn my head to got mud family.... please help educate me on this.... thanks

I never have problems with doe tags I don't buy combos, bucks are small around here I'm just gettin meat for my freezer, I can pull all the doe tags I want for clinton county on the family farm, but I know northern countys are hard to get, dads buddy has been applying for the elk tag since 88' finally got it this year and didn't get anything....just a thought, it might be easier to find somewhere else to hunt man

I hunt state land them you have to go through the draft and all that. and no TB is not the reason.. Everytime they open up doe tags up there, people go nuts.. seen one van pulling out with 5 does and only 1 hunter.

Typically....
a Combo tag you can be a little creative with when tagging..

my understanding is that..
Archery season - 1st kill is hunters choice (buck or doe) even **state land.
2nd tag must be a buck with at least 1 antler 4" in length (spike or otherwise) and can also be used during archery season.

the best part of a combo tag is that if you dont' get a deer during archery season both tags are still valid however you are restricted to bucks only
during firearm unless you have a doe tag (state land) from the lottery.
private land doe permits are available "over the counter" with nothing more that the land owners phone #

if you get the standard tag -
Archery season - 1st kill is still hunters choice (buck or doe) even on **state land
but now you've used your only tag and must get another one for Archery season along with another one for firearm (both would have buck restrictions)

** some areas are restricted from this, that is why you need to check your local area.

The combo tags state what they can be used for.  one tag states: valid only for deer with antlers (3 inches or longer) in firearm season.  or antlerless or any size antlered deer in archery seasoon except for the upper peninsula and special dmu's.  The other tag reads similar, however specifies antlers with at least 4 points on one side for the firearm portion.
