Title: welding thicker frame on thinner frame!?
Post by: Bryank on December 26, 2011, 03:03:47 PM
I got an old 73 shortbox bogger that the frame is bent a little in the front and the frame has been broken and cobbled back together before i got it at the steering box. I have my old frame from my old bogger and i'm about too chop off both sides of frame right by the motor crossmember and weld in my old frame. Only thing is the old frame is 10 gauge and frame i'm welding in is 3/16. Here i go hope it don't turn into too much of a disaster!

just put most of the heat into the thicker steel and you will be fine.

well it turned out great considering my garage floor is unlevel as hell and working with 2 bent frames. Now its straighter and stronger than before  ;D

yeah i made a brace inside the frame kinda channel like the frame where i cut and replaced the frame and then i boxed in the frame behind the motor mounts to the leaf spring shackles. The frame i added is 3/16 and it has the beefier crossmember at the power steering box and i run crossover steering so i don't think i need to add anything else.
