This project started early last spring, I had sold my 1 tons and bought a set of Rockwell 2.5 tons. Then I had surgery on my shoulder and everything went on hold. I couldnt physically work on it and really couldnt afford to finish it. I went back to work at the end of August, and had a whole pile of insulation that needed to be put up in barn before winter, and the furnace installed. When I had fist started the project I went down and visited Dave, (wildtime) and bought a bunch of parts. Now its finally time to finish this project. I have 8" Superlift springs already, added 6" spring perches to the axles. I did get those welded on the other day, and got my U bolts made. Once I get my trans and T case back in and can see driveshaft angles, i have to make some shims to tilt the axles up. Ive got to make shock mounts, redo rear ladder bars, make a torque bar for the front axle. Im goin with Hydraulic steering also. and rear pinion brake. Planning on keeping the 44" Boggers, 468 BBC, TH350/NP241. Maybe upgrade Trans/T case later.
More pics.

==kp Sweet Rig!!!!
Lookin great!! Can't wait for it to go to tgw in the spring
very nice truck!
one day i hope to build me a big ole Rockwell rig. keep the pics coming
Thanks guys, probably be next week before i make anymore real progress. I am hoping to get the trans back in this week. Another delay, had to put head gaskets on my kids truck. I am hoping to take it to TGW in May, id like to make a trial run at the mounds before that, a little closer to spring. ;D
ill go to the mounds with you i want to see this run . looks good

Hell yeah, lookin good Tim, its a monster for sure! Im sure it will impress, it always does! I will have to stop by and check this out,
Thanks guys! Nothing really worth takin pics of, but I did get the trans/Tcase back in, mocked up the driveshafts. Lookin like im gonna have to lenghten both of em. At least I can tell now how much shimming I have to do to the rear axle. When I get some more parts installed Ill get pics. ==wgm
Lookin good
sweet set up looking to see it in action
==cl
Makin some progress. I couldnt get the Pinion angle i liked, so i opted for the shackle flip & longer shackles. I added a smaller shim and im happy now with it. Did some frame tieing in the back, 2 pieces of
3 1/2" sq tube between frame rails, and connected everything all the way back to the bumper w/ 2 x 2 x 1/4" sq tube. To save some $$, I dropped down the rear shocks instead of buying longer ones. Rear ladder bars are done. I fabbed my own helmet for the front axle to mount my front torque bar to also. I also dropped down the front spring mounts 4". So with susp and body lift its gonna have around 21' - 22" of total lift. ;D Next up is Hydro steering and pinion brake.
A few more pics
Lookin great Tim! its gonna be big!
Sweet!

==cl project, but i did see somthing you might want to remedy. on the front axle drivers side i see you put your gusset tube on the inside, from my point of view you might want to put another one on the out side or move it to the out side. because if somthing did happen in the front it might start to lean to the driver side or break in that direction. but like i said ==cl project it will be really cool to see it in person if you or me happen to be at the same bog.

I was Thinking about adding one there, not sure yet. The blocks are completely welded to the housing also. Alot of trucks Ive seen online w/ leafs dont have the gusset. I appreciate the comment though. This is my first rockwell build and its definitely a learning experience. I know 1 thing, Rockwells are cheap, but theres nothing cheap about puttin em in, and I didnt even 4 link it.
Thanks everyone for the comments, Got alot done monday, then i had a couple days of training classes at work so ill be back on it thurs. Should have some new pics this weekend, hopefully on rollers.

u have to go from the bumper?
If you have a hitch in front, or HD bumper you can drop a bracket down from either. I used 4" sq tube to drop my spring hangers down, so i welded tabs on the bottom of that for mine. Either way, but it has to come from front of truck and toward rear.

With a 4 link you can come from center of truck forward. With leafs ive learned, Thanks Rollover Herb, that if come from the center forward the shackle cant flex and you will break your main leaf.
Progress
Up on Rollers! Finally!

Does the concept of running the torque bar to the front work with the rear? As in running from rear axle to rear of truck?
No the rear is like regular ladder bars, from the middle of truck to the rear. Cuz your flexible shackle is in back.

I got my brake from DIY4X. Came w/ brackets, rotor and bolts. You buy your own reg Chevy truck caliper and pads. I did have to shim my bracket out 1/8" so the caliper would fit right om the rotor, Other than that it works good.
Very nice.

i kinda know what it means but when you have somewhat of a high horse motor and ur sitting there and you lay into the throttle youll get axle wrap which means the axle housing itselfs is twisting before the tires actually turn and if u have big blocks etc the amount of axle wrap is multiplied
Can you avoid this by strengthing the housing or adding some sort of link bars? Or is this just a fact of rocks in general? Are there any fixes?
Axle wrap primarily happenes with leif spring applications when under load the axle twists breaking ubolts driveshafts and in most cases cracking of the t case, ways to eliminate axle wrap are ladder bars or a simple link likw what you see with this build, 4 link is by far the best way to eliminate axle wrap, its also the best way to maintain your pinion angle through out your suspensions full movement

Repaired floor on both sides, replaced both doors and front fenders, with used but solid ones. Got lucky and found a nice tailgate at the junkyard for $25. Recut the holes in the hood, a little straighter this time. Pounded the dents out of the roof, i guess i shouldnt stand on it. lol Gotta thank StumpJumper on the site for the body fill work. nice build man! are the wheels recentered? or does someone make a bolt on app that will except standard tire sizes?
Thanks! I welded in new wheel centers in my 15" rims. I wanted to keep the overall width close to what I had w/ D60. I think it's about 7" of back spacing, almost centered in the wheel. I think Ouverson makes an 8 lug hub, but I think they're $500 ea!

Thanks! I welded in new wheel centers in my 15" rims. I wanted to keep the overall width close to what I had w/ D60. I think it's about 7" of back spacing, almost centered in the wheel. I think Ouverson makes an 8 lug hub, but I think they're $500 ea!
sweet that works! i wanna switch to rocks but not really a fan of tractor tires.... will be looking into welding in new centers so i can run my boggers.
That's one bad looken truck
==wgm a=f ++peaceIf anyone gets a chance check out the fab work on this truck, Tim is a helluva wrench and comes up with some great ideas, wish mine was this stout, its gonna be impressive to watch cant wait for that!
Thanks for all the great comments! ++peace. TGW is gonna be its maiden voyage! I'm very anxious to see how it does! It's been a loooong wait, The last time it had mud on it was Oct 2010 at Big Al's!

who did you get your pinion breaks from?
I got my brake from DIY4X. Came w/ brackets, rotor and bolts. You buy your own reg Chevy truck caliper and pads. I did have to shim my bracket out 1/8" so the caliper would fit right om the rotor, Other than that it works good.
Your rotor is on backwards, I bought and installed the same kit, it came with no instructions so I went on their website and found this pic (http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l490/gregor214/tn_rockwellpinionbrake2-500x500.jpg)
I know its kinda late now lol, but if you ever wanted to remove the Spacer you could
No, actually its not. The pic you have up, to me it looks like the chunk is rotated 180, or its a front axle. If you look at my pic, and the way the bracket is in relationship to the rectangle cover and side cover, its actually the same. The problem i had was with how the rotor fit in the caliper, it wasnt centered right. I had to shim the bracket out for that. Spinning the bracket wouldnt change that, it would still be on the same plane. I had talked to Kert, the owner of DIY4x, he said sometimes one doesnt get bent quite right, he told me i could send it back for a new one, i chose to shim it 1/8' instead.
Your braket is fine, its the rotor that is on backwards, see in my pic how you can see the rotor cooling fins, and cant see the tabs that bolt the rotor to the hub, and in your pic you can see the tabs, if you were to flip your rotor the other way and remove the 1/8 inch Spacers for the bracket, everything will fit perfect, I should've been more specific in my first post, I made the same mistake with my kit when I first installed it, the caliper didn't fit right, then I.flipped the rotor, and now its perfect, I took mine apart 3 times before I figured it out,
I tried it that way too, it was offset too far the other way. It works anyway. Lol.
As long as it works that's all that matters!!!
Picked up some different shoes Saturday.. Thanks 2Trackr.. 14.9-26's, real nice shape on recentered tractor wheels, about 50" tall. Gotta do some fender trimming, and pull them back off and wire wheel and repaint this winter..But, I cant wait to try em out!
Im in love with your truck lol very nice
That looks bad ass!!!
Sweet

Rock on! Love the new shoes
Thanks guys, I still have the boggers too, not letting them go

Yea i didnt have that kinda money either. Might go to a TH400/NP205 someday, but what ive got works for me so far without any issues. Ill snap ya some better pics tomorrow and post em up.

applaudd you did a good job building that beast! like how ya made everything simple and strong.
Well i tried out the tractor tires out this past weekend, and im very happy with how they worked out....But..... the horsepower bug is biting the p00 out of me, so some changes are comimg soon..... ;)
blower motor???
Looks bad to the bone man!
Awesome looking truck! This is exactually the same way I wanna build mine. I love how you did your suspension and brackets on here. Did you make a build sheet as you were doing this? I like the height and stoutness of it compared to others I've seen. I'd like mine to go from this to that. Once again...Awesome looking truck! ;D
Thank you! Thats a nice looking truck you have too. I decided to change it back to black before TGW. Had a few issues there, broken trans case being the worst. But, im gonna throw another trans in to finish the year out and time for some upgrades this winter.... ;D Anything you wanna know just ask, but its basically 8" springs on 6" perches, and a shackle flip with longer shackles in back and a drop mount in front.
Truck is definately sweet! nice job tim
==wgm a=f Yeah this truck runs as good as it looks! ++peace

I am building same truck set mine up the same way per Kert as well
looks good
Sorry guys I didn't realize anyone posted on this recently. Lots of things have changed. The truck is more or less scrapped. I wadded the frame badly at Perkins bog. I decided it was time to step up my game. It's already in the works, ill prob start a new thread. Whole new truck coming out. Literally the cab and the axles are the only parts I'm reusing. New motor, trans, Tcase, suspension, lots of goodies in this one. Here's a sneak peak at what's coming.
No idea why these pics turn sideways. Lol
Build is looking good! I still need to stop over and check out the progress, I live just around the damn corner. ++peace
That's a game changer for sure !! Looking bad ass
Thanks! I'm gonna be doin some reassembly this week. Then ill get some updated pics

Stepside! And its blue again! Nice!
Yes sir! It's staying blue too! Lol
Wow that is nice !!!
Thanks!
Looks awesome
Looking good man!! Is that drive shaft I sold ya still holding up?
Thanks! It was still on the truck til last fall with no problems. It did the job for sure. I had to have 2 shafts with slip yokes built in for the SCS, so I opted to get 2 new ones made. I went with a little heavier wall thickness too, I've got a trans brake to play with now. Lol.
Hell yea should be a ripper. I still need to take ya up on that ride offer lol

Anytime. See me at a bog come say hello
Bad ass a lil jealous
After its first bog at Perkins, ive been workin on some of the bugs.. did some suspension tuning, switched over to a complete serpentine belt system, broke a throttle cable at perkins too... went to bobs bog, broke another brand new throttle cable, but rigged it up enough to continue, then broke all 4 axle shafts in the truck. I was heading across the swamp banged 2nd gear and then I was hittin the rev limiter and no go... Orangecrush towed me out of the pit.. end of the day for me....
So, I don't think I can swing upgraded shafts right now, so I might be putting stockers back in for TGW...
Other than that, im real happy with the truck, the suspension feels great and I love the power it has.. just gotta get it to the ground w/o breaking shafts
Damn that sucks, it sounded good comming threw the swamp till it broke, looks like your making some good power it looked like the front tires were lifting off the ground when you first took off from next to the tent
I love the big cubes.
I love that whole truck lol
Thanks. Lol
one baddass bowtie!
Bowtie972 Do you mind if I ask what that chassis ran you. Was thinking maybe having greg over 1 of a kinf fab make me one up or see if he could do a frame swap for me. You're welcome to PM me if you dont want to post on here. Trying to figure out whats going to give me what i want and whats most cost eeffective. Thanks
P.S. THAT IS ONE BAD ASS TRUCK. I CAN ONLY DREAM THAT BIG FOR NOW. been planting dollar bills all over the back yard but no growth yet. maybe I planted wrong time of the year. lol
Had a great time at TGW with the Mean Streak.. Had a few minor issues on Friday, water pump started leaking, and kept throwing my Serpentine belt too. Got those issues taken care of, and got out for a few runs later Saturday. Felt great to get some real seat time in it!
Axle shafts all held up great too..
watched you run late saturday by the bleachers and watched you do a small wheelie

Awesome!
Lots of derby guys have been using aftermarket gas pedals. They are about $200, but are super smooth and made tough. Might be worth checking into if stock cables are giving you problems.
I have looked at those. I bought a Lokar braided stainless steel cable before TGW. It seemed to work great. If it does give me problems, aftermarket pedal is next.
Lovin the 4 link and 18" travel shocks , was planning on trying the freestyle at The Country Compound, but a bent shock mount ended my day early.
that truck rips looks runs and sounds ==awesome
