alrite im building my motor for my new toy..got 2.5 tons with 6.73 gears and 44x21 tires i run as well as plans for 56in tractors. so im wondering what everyone has for hp and torque to turn their tractors. i know their no replacement for displacement and no such thing as too much power, but its my first truck with rocks and tractors so im wondering if i would be happy with my 535 hp and 585 ft lbs of torque. basically im torn as to weather im putting a set of highly modified heads i did on my reinforced 460 block or just going with a 521 stroker kit and my heads...either way im topping it off with a predator carb and victor intake. i just dont wanna do all the work and not be happy with the end results. i want it to rip not run like a 4 banger turning 35s...sorry jeep guys lol ...And of course im building on a budget
I think you would be more then happy with those numbers :)
i think so but everyone loves to exaggerate their hp numbers..i kept mine on the low side ive been told to expect 580 hp and 635 torque..so anytime i check a truck out with rocks and tractors everyones always like i got 700hp lol
im 385 at the rear wheel that was on a chassis dyno and im happy with mine but would allways like more
lol the DON your 1 of the guys i was hoping to see post...i think your truck rocks pretty good. im actually surprised that you only got 385hp thats a good running truck you got
thanks . that motor is about 10 yrs old and it was built for the road . i dont remember what the torque is i do run in 4 low i dont have any trouble turning all 4 and it dosent seem to bogg down in the deep mud . i think you will be happy with your setup for now lol...
I had an 83 chevy on rocks, 355 stock rebuild, with a rv cam, spun all 4 tires no problem at 7000 rpm lol 48x31 terras...
dont think herb has much power (no offense!) and he goes where he wants
none of us run big $ motors me ,herb, ryan . we went big on the trucks and not hp its cheaper

my buddy erics got about 700 hp and 50" r1s it works good but could use more power.... if I was building a truck on rocks it would need at least 1000-1200hp so it would work like my 1 ton truck with 44s.. but thats just me and I dont plan on building a rockwell truck ever....
What gear's are you running in them 1 tons? Seem's a little out there to me, 700 horse + 50 inch tires + 6.72 gear's = bad ass! But that's just me.

but with rocks and tractors you have alot more weight that 1tons and 44s.

rocks and tractors seem to take you farther IMO id rather go big or go home
Ok guys, this doesnt need to turn into a 1 tons and 44s vs. Rockwells and tractors. We have enough of them threads in this section. He asked about a certain subject, lets stay on it! if you havent built one, and are never, ever gonna build a rockwell truck, then why waste your time posting about it ???

yup my truck runs 1 1/2 ton gmc axels with a whooped out lt1 350 and it turns the 53 xls pretty good i wish i had a budgett for 500 hp lol
sounds like a sweet set up
500hp is no joke. Rocks, 50s and 500hp will be fine, just watch my buds Don, Ryan, herb, Andrew ect.
I'm running 1 tons with 4:88 s 44s and around 500hp, ==np

those things throw you back in the seat
i run a 5hp briggs and stratton good on gas
i opted for a 20hp kohler for now...i can respect the briggs though lmao
put a 12 valve cummins in it lol, theres plenty of power to be made
y not just run what ya got and then decide what ya need or want after ya get a feel for what the truck needs or wants??
because i always want more lol
i mean after ya drive teh set up ya got now you'll have a better idea what route to go to get the power ya want
i knew what ya meant lol really the only thing im kickin around is doing the stroker now or waiting either way the motor is tore down to the bottom end now and ive never run the motor ever. so i dont know what its been through. it all looked good though when i opened it up and the entire rest of the motor will be brand new so im basically just deciding between the stroker kit or not
my rockwel axle cj 7 383 500 ish hp 500 ish tq ,hi lock 1&2 gear as long as i keep rpm above 5500,starting bbc build to get the same hp&tq but at lower rpm
nice looking rig man
