Title: The rejected reject
Post by: four_by_ken on January 10, 2012, 06:00:36 PM
Most everyone know this truck from Prograde.

As #1 priority is my Blazer right now, nothing major will happen here.  Just need to figure out the fueling issue and try to enjoy it in the snow some.

Most likely I would like to do a shakle flip in the rear and some 52" long springs up front.

Keep it a trail rig and really only see mud if its in the trail.

Tires are flat, so it looks worse than it really is.

The axles and tires in this will be up for sale real soon.  Good deal for someone coming.

My Blazer's sloppy seconds are going to find a new home under this rig.

Yup, thank you!

shackle flip in the rear and 52" up front.  Should be about a 4" lift.  44s will fit now.

Depends on what you do to the tracker.  :-)

I wasn't planning on any of this.  I just have these parts laying around that didn't sell... so I HAVE to use them.  :-)

right now the tracker is getting rust removal, it will be a while before it gets all 4 link...I'm glad your keeping the Reject still as low to the ground as possible....its going to be sweet.

I wasn't planning on lifting it all, in fact I still don't want to.  But it's either a small lift or move the cab back.

Rear axle has been pulled... shackle flip in progress.  And new used rear springs to replace the cracked one.
Title: Re: The rejected reject
Post by: four_by_ken on February 29, 2012, 03:19:19 AM
Well... looks like the old rear springs are only 50" long.  Strange.

So.. the 52" replacement springs need some adjustment to the mounts.  Since the frame was cut, there is no room to the move the rear spring mount back further as we do the shackle flip.

So... a little more metal is being added to the frame in order to move the spring mount back.

Going to do some reinforcement back there too while we are at it.

I just came across the sketches a couple weeks ago from when I shortened it, but tossed them. It seems like because of the change in the angle the from the rear hanger moving up and forward, the rear hanger was moved further forward than the front. With the shackle flip flattening the angle i think you will need that extra length again...this might explain why the space seems shorter than the 52", or were my old springs themselves actually that short?  They were the original springs.

The springs themselves are 50" eye to eye.  I thought they were al 52" this year.  Oh well.

The ones I am replacing them with are a hair over 52".

Pretty simple fix.  I dont want to move the front hanger as the driveshaft is going to get shorter with the doubler in there.  And with a 4 inch lift from the shackle flip... I am going to need all the driveshaft I can get.
Title: Re: The rejected reject
Post by: ProGrade on February 29, 2012, 04:52:23 AM
I agree on the driveshaft...there's plenty of empty space to add on to the rear of the frame loll

Looks like the front of the frame is going to need some tweaking too.  The 52" springs up front are just a tad too long.  Strange that what a lot of other people have done to get 52" springs up front wont work on this truck.  Oh well.

Title: Re: The rejected reject
Post by: four_by_ken on March 08, 2012, 02:28:56 AM
So, since the front spring mount of the front springs had to be moved forward to fit the 52" springs... a little drop bracket action was also done.  Get a little more lift in the front at the same time.

Suspension is complete.

Bead locks are welded up also.

Transmission is in.

Time for the tcases to go in.

Other than reworking the bed area, which is put on hold, and mounting the 44s to the bead locks... it's almost ready.

Probably some fender trimming .

Well, it sure is loose in the suspension.  Going to add some shocks to see if it helps.

Got a coolant leak where the previous owner removed the heater core plumbing.  Going to completely remove it to stop the leak.

The proportional valve is leaking also.  Need to get another one from a junk yard.  Not paying dealer ship prices.

Time to put the bead locks together with the tires.

Figure out a cheap way to paint it.  I am thinking my home electric sprayer and some black paint.

Also... the small tires and both tcases in low... tops out at like 10mph.  :-)

Got a little ADD while waiting for them to dry enough to paint the other side.

So, I attacked with the spray can.  I am afraid to see it in day light.  But I wanted to get rid of the graffiti.

So, I had to move the Thing to finish cutting the grass...

For thrown together, I am pretty happy.  Made it to the deck of the trailer with the rear tires still on the ground.

The 44s are going to make the rear end a lot wider too.  Those are dually rims on the back.

I know!  Two bolted together, hopefully another tonight.  Beadlocks are a pain in the ass.

Finished up the beadlocks with enough time to bolt them on the truck.

Front clearance looks good.  Major interference with the front of the rear wheel well.  Off it will come!

Need to grind down my front calipers some more.  Little rubbing on the rim.

Sweet ken!... u also could order up some 0 rate offset add a leaf.  That should correct the location of the rear axle.  And solve yer rubbing issue.

There is MAJOR contact.  Like the rear tire is touching the fender just sitting there.  :-)

Probably going to just cut the front of the rear fender off.

whats the eye to pin on the rear springs? maybe flip the springs around and move the axle back?

I would have to move it a lot.  Trimming will be needed no matter what.

Had to grind the calipers a little more.  Must be some differences in the rims I used to have to these ones.  But it was minor compared to what I did last time.

Next is to trim the front of the rear fenders and the front of the front fenders.

Built for two differant purposes.

Blazer = Mud

K10? = Everything else

For the amount of money in this thing...  I am thinking it will be a better bang for the buck.

Stopped the coolant leak. Brakes are a 1.5 pumper now instead of a 2 pumper.

Just need to add breather lines, a little trans fluid, put in fuel filter and a new air cleaner.

Will be good to go for the Mounds on Memorial Day!

Did some testing for a good 15-20 minutes in the ditch tonight. Nothing broke and it didnt over heat... and didnt seem to stumble.

Still needs some tweaking here and there, but I think it is Mounds ready.

Still have a problem with filling the trans fluid. Pukes out.. not sure just where though.  From what I can see... it looks like mid way up the fill tube.  Which makes no sense to me.

Blew a braided brake line yesterday... but replaced it with a rubber one for now.

Fluids are all topped off... greased up.  Just need fuel now.

Sad to say that I have only had it out once.  But it worked real good.  Need to fix rear pinion angle.  Hopefully Just by reworking the shackles.  Then fix the driveshaft that bound because of the pinion angle.  It's rotated to far up right now.  It is set for an 8-10" lift and not the 4-6" I have.
Dented the driver door at the Mounds.
Need to strengthen up the rear fenders.  Might Just flat bed it and add some roll protection.

Title: Re: The rejected reject
Post by: ProGrade on October 10, 2012, 12:27:48 AM
I ran it flat bed. It worked good...except steep downhills it felt like the tail was too light. The drivers door is used to that treatment.  I used a tree at the mound to remove that drivers mirror the day after I painted the truck.

What I hope to do with the flat bed will weigh more than what is on there now.  Plus add some roll over protection.  Atleast that is the plan.
