did you put the lifters in oil. i hope not.  take put lifter on buttom side of the cam ( turn the cam so the lifter is not on cam lube) trun the rocker nut O lash no play in push rod and lifter to check for play grab push rod no movement up & down turn 1/4 to 1/2 trun and dun. it easy to do with intake off you can see the lifter clapse.

sorry to jack your thread bud........ I know how to adjust flat tappet lifters, as how you said, but is this the same with roller lifters?? I am building a sbc with them and just wondering?   and I have always soaked my lifters in oil for at least 24hrs before install, also wondering why you say not to? thanks

frist thing  when you put the lifters in oil thay will be pump up, harder to get set. on any motor that i work on i pull the lifters out and bleed them out. so that i don't have to reajust any of them. i put lube on the bottom of lifter and the side of the lifter put in hole.

what do you mean type of cam? it is a hydraulic roller cam, and hydraulic roller lifters.   I personally dont mind doing a second adjustment on them, as i always do with engine running
