on my 351 I have 2 2.75 pvc tubes going in to the intake plentum. if you are running a carb get a throttlebody boot from a v8 cadillac they will fit a carb and have a 4in diameter hole. the only probly is buying an air filter. when you get into the 4in sizes they can get pricey

that should be fine, but It all depends on what size engine you have and how much power your making, you will know right away if it is to small as it would starve your engine from air and you would defiantly notice the power difference. 3'' should do you just fine tho.
