Title: compression readings
Post by: chevyfanlt1 on February 01, 2012, 10:44:03 PM
ok so i have my buddys car for a day or two. been checking it out to see why its backfiring. i know part of it is due to bad plug wires. but i went ahead and did a compression test on it. results are as follows, 135, 140, 120, 140.......does anyone know what is the normal range for a 2004 dodge neon 2.0 sohc. i realize cylinder #3 is a little low compared to the rest. which i did a wet test on #3 and the reading went up to 140. any help is appreciated. ive looked online but cant really find anything that says what the normal range is for these engines.

if number 3 is the one backfiring the unbrunt gas mite have washed the hole down. i would run it and ckeck it again.  but on the other side just run it.

did you test teh rest of the cylinders a 2nd time? as long as your with in 5% it's not that big of a deal, your gonna have compression loss after a few thousand miles, swap out the parts you know are bad and run it see if it straightens out or not

well replaced the plug wires, still acts up now and then but for the most part its much better. so as of now its got new plugs and wires. i redid the compression test with the same results. its better than it was thats for sure. gonna try some injector cleaner see if that helps or not. if not any one got any idea what would cause it to backfire?
