Going to be getting a trailer frame to put a deck on it and use it to haul my bogger. But there's no title. How would I go about getting a title and then plate?
take it to a local feed mill and get it weighed, and take the weigh slip to secretary of state and get a home made title.
Ok thanks.
I never had to get it weighed just a bill of sale if your buying it, take it to sos and tell em its homemade and get a plate,
just make up weight and go to the sos. that all i have done.
if you make up a weight make sure its under 2500lb becouse if its over 2500 the plate will be 200 insted of 75
i had to have a certified weight slip to get a title for mine. i took the trailer to the scrap yard to get a weight ticket from them they weighed it for free.

assembled
Get itg weighed most scrap yards will do it
Yes, you have to have a certified weight slip. And easiest way to get the plate is to get a bill of sale for an assembled trailer.
Any trailer over 2500 lbs MUST have a title too. If not you have to file for one. I went through a lot of stuff to get my 5th wheel titled and plated because it weighed 3700 lbs.

No problem. We had it titled for a while before you bought it though. ;D. Still use it ??
I Had To Jump Through Loops To TRY And Get Mine Titled Because Of No VIN...I Had To Have A Weight Slip...Then They Gave Me A Form For A Cop To Fill Out..Then I Had To Take It Back And They Said I Had To Get A Dot Inspection...Never Did Finish The Process....But Your Saying If I Can Cut 400lbs Off The Trailer To Get It Under 2500lbs I Dont Have To Get All That Crap And Just Go Get A Plate??

yes.....or you could just tell them that it weighs less than 2500lbs
always weigh them without a deck on it two tires instead of 4 what ever works to be less.
Well I Can Have It Weighed No Problem...Think Imma Take Some Boards Off The Deck Or Just Cut A Axle Off

But yeah, that's the same scenario I went through. It's not as bad as you think. But if you can get the weight down below 2500, you just need the weight slip and bill of sale. Mine weighed 3700, no way I'd ever get it below 2500 . . .
With all that said, if the inspections are stopping you, personally I don't want to see your trailer on the roads I haul down anyway.
No The Trailer Aint Bad...It Just Worked Out Last Time That I Was Suppost To Do The Inspection Suring The Week I Was Up North And They Never Did Tell Me Where/How To Set Up A Dot Appointment.... It Does Need Some Brakes But I Deffinatly Aint Gonna Haul My Big Ass Truck On A Sketchy Trailer....Trust Me! I Just Wanna Save Some Headache Having To Do All That Stuff Again

Well when you do the police inspection you turn in the paperwork to SoS and they will set up an appointment for you (usually mail you the info and time) to take the trailer to SoS and have it inspected and have the VIN tag put on. Then you can walk in to SoS and get your plate and title. ;D
Yea Thats What They Said Is They Would Mail It.....Never Saw It Though.....Either Way Imma Have To Get Something Done loll Thanks For The Info Though! And Ken I Know Ya Hate The Way I Type

Just take a differant trailer to weigh, The weight slip will not have and Identification numbers on it.
lol airboss, my old man has used many diff trailers along with friends of family on the same license plate for years! lol not saying its right but i wouldn't even bother titling it. specially if there making u jump through hoops left and right to get your title. i just bought a dual axle car trailer and all i have is a bill of sale. i think it may be more then 2500lbs but i have a single axle i may weight instead and take it to the sos. or just use one of my dads license plates haha. i wouldn't stress on it big guy.
