Is there a place I can buy a stock rebuilt short block with no heads and cam to save a little cash? I blew a head gasket on my motor and replaced the cracked/warped heads with some machined vortec heads and I installed a edelbrok cam, lifters and new push rods and it came with a chip for the tbi, friggin thing ran fantastic and had gobs of low end power however now I have a rod starting to knock, I can hear it at idle so I want to just take all my parts and put them on a new lower half. However every reman short block I find has heads and cam with it, I just need the block, crank, rods, pistons and oil pump and I have everything else.
I am also looking at this? http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/pts/2806718335.html (http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/pts/2806718335.html)
I know the cheapest way would probably be to just buy a rebuild kit from jegs after a machine shop reworked the block but then I would be looking at a lot of downtime and this is my daily driver so I am looking at making this a weekend project and being back on the road monday with a 100% new motor.
It has been awhile but if I remember right, you can get one through NAPA or Carquest for around $1100. That is for a complete motor though. However, the price might be up cause that was a long time ago.
i just bought myself a motor from surefire manufacture thru autozone and 4.3 motor cost 1500.00 plus tax without oil pan n intake
Flip through the summit racing catalog. They have short blocks that are stock in there.
im not sure but i think jasper engines has them too. short blocks

I just decided to buy the GM motor and put my heads and cam in/on it and call it a day, it comes with new oil pump and everything, its not a remanufactured motor it is a brand new motor from gm them selves, going to run first oil change at 500 miles and the next at 3000 to seat the rings good then switch to amsoil and do 10,000 mile oil changes, I plan on driving this truck until the day I die...lol
