ok prolly be buying my girlfriends cavalier she ran it low on oil and i think she might of wasted the rod bearings becuz when it runs it sound like the piston is coming up and smacking the top of the head.. its a 2.4l twin cam i found 3 at a junkyard my question is would it be better to swap in a diff motor or try and rebuild it? and is it hard to take one out
Pull the oil pan swap out the rod bearings and sell it. The 2.4L are junk.
im getting a good deal on this car tho body is CLEAN can u swap out for a diff motor
you could... but it'd require more work than that car is worth. lol i bought a CLEAN 98 Grand am GT 2 door w/ 2.4 and 5 spd, got the car for 300 bucks, and spent another 1500 on a motor, and the car only books out at 1800 so at tops. lol so just becareful how much you spend on it, and how much beating it can take, (which isnt much, about 100k miles then it'll crap out for sure)
the only other options for the cavalier was a 2.2 i do believe, which is a great motor compared to the 2.4 DOHC
i got a rebuildable H.O motor sitting my garage if you're interested 100 bucks, needs a 200 dollar crank kit (comes with matching bearings) and put it back in the car, i ended up picking this up as a second motor for my car, because knowing these motors kinda suck but i like the power the motors do make, with the 5 spd i'm fairly confident in this motor quick to get up and go.

will it bolt in?
depends on if the one in the car has an EGR valve or not. 99 was a halfbreed. could have egr or it might not, this one doesnt.
