depends on what size the winch is, If its an old pair of jumpers then just cut em and try it out with a load on the winch and see if they get hot,  I know most jumper cables are made of a bunch of the small this copper wire where as some thing like the winch cable is a bunch of thick copper wire.

You could always go to a junk yard or find some old battery cables, and use them, that would be the best way to go imo

Mine is 4 or 6 gauge. Biggest booster cable set Walmart has. Put terminal ends on one side and quick-connects on the other to the winch. Works awesome with my 10,000lb winch. The storage bag is now used for my tow strap as well.

I got my quick connects at Napa. 35 bucks or so. Supposed to be able to solder the ends on but I just put them in a vise and "crimped" them together. They're blue in color.

As far as the battery ends you can leave the booster clamps on it if you will just use a remote battery, or just get those clamp-on terminal end replacements.

I can get a pic of my setup tomorrow and show ya . . .

35 or so bucks for 2 connectors, allows one connection to be made. I originally had my booster cable set on a truck to run the winch (I have it on a 2" receiver mount) but since sold it and just tote a battery around now when I use the winch on the trailer. I welded a 2" receiver on the trailer so setting the winch up is as fast as putting a trailer hitch in a receiver.

Here's my pics. Love my Harbor Freight winch. Can't beat a 5 ton winch with receiver mount for $350. ;D

My winch came with the mount. Two bolts to bolt the mount to the side of the winch, and a big zip tie to hold it on the other end. That's all it is.
