Ive been welding since i was sixteen and have already had several jobs mig welding and tig welding steel and aluminum, those of you who know me know i cant work due to a bad car accident, i figure while im getting my legs back to where they need to be i should go to school and further my education and get something on paper.....
BUT...my question is is there downfalls to the 1 year tech schools compared to say a 2 or 4 year degree from a university?
the main schools im looking at are hobart institute of welding technology and ferris state. any input would be appreciated
If you want to weld, a certificate will be fine. I you want to weld and then advance to more difficult applications or potentially have your own business or work commercially, get an associates. Any accredited program should work, a more expensive school doesn't mean you will make more. This is coming from a Kettering University dropout. Do yourself a favor, at least get an associates, if nothing else, it will put you in line before guys that don't have one.
i have a cousin that went to ferris to be a welding engineer, and he is making really good money now!
Ferris is a major party school. Nuff said! loll
ive thought bout going to school for welding too. both those schools are great places to go. but ive heard ferris has the hardest test out of all the welding schools. i know i personally prefer tech schools cuz ya dont have to take all thos bs extra classes that colleges make ya take to steal ur money. to me, a university focuses more on welding in the work enviroment, robotics, working with welders, repair, etc etc rather than the art of welding itself that a tech school is more about
i know a guy who went to hobart and is doing very well for himself and owns his own buisiness. drives around everywheres with a welder in the back of his truck lol

I wanna go to a school strictly based on welding. You can't make 100 bucks an hour out west with a auto body certificate lol
