Finally got my first Blower set-up, I dont know much about them other then the basics since this is my first! Any helpful tips or info would be great! Thanks!!!
This is a B&M 420 Mega-Charger, came with a few sets of pullys, Id like to get the boost parts figured out first!
This set-up is going on a fresh SBC 350 L82 Vette engine, was told its 8.5-1 compression
Feel free to post any input or ideas, any help will be great!
Thanks again WGM!!!
Sweet
people say that a "roots" blower is the most un-efficiant way to add power to your motor. some say it only takes a few ponies to spin the thing, others say it takes like 150hp. but you can build so much power with them. but once you start adding boost, anything over 10lbs will make your ass hole pucker really quick.
personally i just looks cooler than p00. and you have the intimidation factor. personally i love superchargers, i support them all day every day.
when you have a naturally asperated engine (carbed) its like impossible to get to 100% volumetric efficenty. <--- google that term. but with a blower you can get WELL OVER 100%.
a pro to that is not only making your engine work better, its cheap. it could cost you $10k to build a carbed engine with throttle responce and good VM efficeintcy. as to where you could slap a blower on it and have that INSTANT boost and off the line power, and still operating above 100% VM eff.
the 71 serries ( ie 6-71) are all interchangable parts (minus rotors/cases) pretty much everything is interchangable. wich also makes them cheaper.
dont let any ricer tell you that a turbo will smoke your blower. i cant remember off the top of me head, but i think a 671 pushes like 600+ cubes of air every 1 rotation. and there is no LAG to the boost. if the motor isnt on boost, its on vaccume ready to boost. and plus, if turbos were really better, then wouldnt top fuel racers always hvae turbos instead of blowers?
there are just so many things you can do with a blower i cant list them all. but here is just a little crash on them.
i support you and us blower guys need to stick together ++peace
ps. blowers get you laid. ;D
and i dont think that you will hit 10lbs and keep it on pump gas. and im not too familliar with the non 71 serries specs.
12:1 427 on my 671@5lbs is like 15:1. so im going lower comp pistions. but i got 118 fuel to burn ;)
what size pulleys did you get? you can call B&M and tell them the tooth count, and they could tell you the kind of boost to expect. and if i was you, run like 3-5 pounds on that and you will be happy and get deacent MPGs. cuz like around 9 or 10 WFO, you have zip point p00 for MPGs.
do yo have any other blower parts you may wanna sell?

MPG? Were talking blowers here... who cares about mpg!
:-)
Thanks for the help and info!!! I'll have to get the pullys out tomorrow and see what I have, no blower parts for sale as of now, but I was seing misc. blower stuff and set-ups on Craigslist (Detroit Metro). I currently have no extras, but plan to start buying up some of those deals when I get the extra cash!

i forgot to mention. with a blower you are forcing air in and out of your motor. you could have stock heads and it wouldnt matter THAT much. it still plays a factor, but you can still build alot of power. same with exhaust, its all being forced out, the blower pretty much does the work. in the future if you ever have a blower motor where you have the chance to put zoomie headers on. do it. they are really short, like 16-20''. you can get like up to 90hp i think? zoomies work incredibly well with blowers.
Nice! I just checked out my pulley's and I have 72, 68, 52, & 48 teeth pulleys. It came to me set up with the 68 up top on the blower and the 52 down off the crank, I have no idea what that means as for boost, but I'm hoping to have it figured out soon! Lol Im puttin this on a SBC L82 350, the engine is brand new running either 8.5-1 or 9-1 compression and Id like it to last a lil while!!! My engine guy laughed at me when I brought this to him and he seen the small block intake on it! He told me scrap that intake, get a BBC intake and a 540 block! Well, Id love to and hope to someday but this lil L82 is what I have for now!!!
Thanks again!!!

if your looking to get as much boost, go with the 72 tooth on the crank and the 48 tooth on the blower. you will be running some overdrive on it. and you wont have to rev your engine to the moon to get the PSI your looking for.
as far as the 540, depending on the bore/stroke combo you went with, the rod aspect ratio was great, and made it a screamin motor.
Thinkin I may sell the blower set-up... Just finished another engine and trans that I dont have a car/truck for! Sucks to say but I just dont know when Ill get around to using it
thats badass, i always wanted a car with something like that on it lol
i have a 4-71 old school blower. its alot cheaper considering its all the same as 2-71 to 14-71
and it looks cool on a small block.
