Title: edelbrock issues
Post by: jbeery78 on March 10, 2012, 09:59:55 PM
Ive got an edelbrock 1406 4 barrell on top of my 400m in my ford, got a pretty lumpy cam, and a weiand dual plane intake. My problem is ive got an off idle hesitation when i let the clutch out. It bogs down and sputters til i lay into the gas, then it picks up and runs strong. So far i have adjusted the floats to edelbrocks specs, replaced the accel pump and played with the linkage to it, and have the timing at 12 degrees. It has gptten better, but still there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

what setting you got your accelerator pump on? and what size pump jet you got and which accelerator pump you got in it?

maby your loseing vackum because of a big lumpy cam.   at idle  make sure it has full vackum to dist.

just to test,  turn your idle up to 1200 to 1500 rpm's  and see if that make a differnce.

if it dose, you  mite need a vackum can added. to keep steady vackum at a idel.

Ive got the pump on the middle setting, seems best there. The pump as far as i know is the atl replacement, just the one napa got me. And ill try bringin the idle up, ill try to get a gauge on it and check manifold vac at idle.  By full vacuum do you mean right off the manifold and not the carb port? Thanks ill post more as i play with it more.

vacum leak would cause same symtoms..

Make sure there is no slop/play in the linkage on your accel pump so that it moves at the exact same time you begin to push the gas pedal. If the butterflies begin to open with no pump shot youll have a hesitation. If thats ok, try increasing primary jets by one or two sizes. Just a little at a time! ;D

Got to play with the truck for a few minutes, found a vac cap kinda rotted, replaced that, moved diat vac to manifold and that made a difference. Hesitation still there but not near as noticeable. Gonna get a new base gasket, hopefully im gettin it worked out. Thanks for the suggestions ill update after somemore playin around.
