Have always though it was cool when mud trucks could run 3rd gear and carry 6000 or over rpm and spin 40 inches or bigger tires with lots wheel speed, how many of you have trucks with that capability and what is your set up, I run a 462 BBC to 350/208 with 4:56 gears with 40's up front and 44's in the rear
I did a long time ago........
let ya know when i actually get to put it in the mud with the new drivetrain.......
i run third......rocks and cut 44 bogs all the way around...bbc...
I was wondering the same thing, and what size and brand stall converter people are running, I've got 355 th400(2wd) to divorced 205 one tons and 456 gears, and 44 boggers in low range I've got deccent power but in high it seems weak I was wondering if my stall converter isn't matched right for my engine
Its gonna be weak in high range its a higher gear ratio and I wouldn't recommend running in high when bogging very bad on the trans
Yeah it stays in low when bogging, I've only bogged this truck twice, and haven't had much seat time in the truck due to.not having any place to run it, I've just noticed that if I run in 2 hi or even.4 high in my yard or up the road it seems like it has no balls till I'm higher in the rpms, which makes me think the torque converter isn't matched right for my setup, I'm gonna get the specs for the cam today and see what operating range the rpms are
i have a 3000 stall converter and thats how my truck is too with small block or big block it just like full throttle!
I think it just has a lot to do with it being in high range

x2 big tires in hi range with out a ton of axle gear is hard on trans parts
Not enuff gear with those 44s.
I have a hard enough time holding first on the limiter
I hold 2nd all day with 4.10s. I think if I got more gear I could hold 3rd.
I might be able to....lol
I run a 388/350/208 3000 stall with 1 tons 4:88s and I can hit 3rd and hold bout 4500rpms
runs good in high now
with my other motors it was a bog in hi
takes alot of hp n torc to run hi
i have a 600 hp 670 lb tq bbc should be able to run 3ed if i can get the drive line to stay together long enuf to see with 4 10s and 40- 44s 496/400/208 3500-3800 edge racing converter in a s10 on a k 5 frame with d 60 /14 ff
I have been able to hit 3rd in mine.
I run a 465 buick big block, had a 670cfm on it now going to an 800, 60 front 70 rear, 3000 sthal, 4.88, 350,205 and 44 tires
I don't really know what the power or torque is on the motor but it is enough to run good so that is all that matters I guess, till I find out for sure one of these days lol
i can hit and hold 3rd all day long at 30 rpm, thats right 30 rpm. On my mountain bike...lol
