Title: 3rd gear club
Post by: BAD APPLE on March 11, 2012, 02:34:07 AM
Have always though it was cool when mud trucks could run 3rd gear and carry 6000 or over rpm and spin 40 inches or bigger tires with lots wheel speed, how many of you have trucks with that capability and what is your set up, I run a 462 BBC to 350/208 with 4:56 gears with 40's up front and 44's in the rear

I was wondering the same thing, and what size and brand stall converter people are running,  I've got 355 th400(2wd) to divorced 205 one tons and 456 gears, and 44 boggers  in low range I've got deccent power but in high it seems weak  I was wondering if my stall converter isn't matched right for my engine

Its gonna be weak in high range its a higher gear ratio and I wouldn't recommend running in high when bogging very bad on the trans

Yeah it stays in low when bogging,  I've only bogged this truck twice,  and haven't had much seat time in the truck due to.not having any place to run it, I've just noticed that if I run in 2 hi or even.4 high in my yard or up the road it seems like it has no balls till I'm higher in the rpms,  which makes me think the torque converter isn't matched right for my setup,  I'm gonna get the specs for the cam today and  see what operating range the rpms are

I think it just has a lot to do with it being in high range

I hold 2nd all day with 4.10s.  I think if I got more gear I could hold 3rd.

I don't really know what the power or torque is on the motor but it is enough to run good so that is all that matters I guess, till I find out for sure one of these days lol
