Title: GM 14 bolt gear setup
Post by: OHEARN.2012 on March 16, 2012, 10:38:11 PM
ok im in the process of putting my gm 14 bolt back together and im using the old gears still because they are 410s and thats what i wanted. but when i tore it down i didnt keep track of the turns so i have to set the tolerance for the carrier. also i found out that my pinion bearings were bad so im thinking about getting a Yukon differential set up kit. there like $150 and come with all new carrier bearings and the pinions bearings. but is there any other companies who make these cheaper. not really wanting to spend that kind of money on one since im not putting new gears in it but i guess i have to either way itll assure me new parts in the carrier so i wont have any problems but if i get it how hard is it to setup the gears?? i have NEVER done anything like this so i have no idea what im doing if someone local has the tools and wouldnt mind helping me out when the time comes that would be cool.  ==wgm

I believe you can buy the bearings at any autoparts store. When I put mine in I put the carrier in first then just turned the things in the axle tubes out till they barely tightened up on the carrier. Starting with the left one(drivers side) first. And haven't ever had a problem with it.

I think you can get all the bearings at the autoparts store. And I believe they are pushed on the pinion and I think the bearings are pressed on the carrier to.
