Title: Michigan maniacs "BAD TO THE BONE"
Post by: michigan maniac on March 24, 2012, 02:26:09 AM
Well I pretty much ruined my 85 shortbed last season when I put it on its side, then jumped the p00 out of it after, so  the cab is shot, along with the rest of the body, and frame got torn,  has 355/ 2wd th400 and divorced 205, Dana 60 with locker, 14ff Detroit locker 4:56 gears

Anyways just purchased an 85 k5 from a member on here to start a new build, hope to have it in the shop soon and start getting everything torn down just to build it up!!

This is what I had

Before (http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l490/gregor214/pics100.jpg) (http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l490/gregor214/pics100.jpg)

After

This is what I'm starting with, only the frame and body, no tube doors, axles engine or trans, but a good solid start

Yeah I hope I don't either, but this one will be getting a full cage and ill wear my seatbelt just incase,  when the truck went over I didn't have it on, and almost went out the sunroof...  So this build I'm gonna make it safer and do it right, I want people to be able to ride in the back seat and be safe, that fiberglass top ain't gonna do p00 in a roll over, not that I plan on rolling it lol but you can never expect when something bad is gonna happen

Me too lol!!  It's gonna have 18 inches of lift, should look good with the 44 inch boggers under it and hopefully have room for so tractor tires if desired, without having to cut the fenders, there just too clean to cut

I welded mine, front and rear both.   Before I did it, I was worried about not being able to steer. I'm more than happy with it.  Are you staying with leafs or 4 linking it?

What's your plans for the lift?  I started with 8" springs and 6" perches,  with the  short blazer frame i had a problem with pinion angle on the rear axle. I ended up adding a shackle flip, which twisted up the axle enough to lessen the angle. The part of the spring perch that welds to the axle should've been tapered on mine.

I've got 12 inch springs front, 8s on the rear with shackle flip, gonna build 3 inch perches, and 3 inch body lift

The lift is what I've had on it before, I didn't wanna run 4 inch blocks in the rear so I did the shackle flip, since superlift doesn't make 12 inch rear springs,  I'm building my own perches, so if the pinion angle doesn't look good during mock up then ill angle them to get it right, I've looked at your build and have been using it as a reference  ++peace  gonna steal the front helmet idea and torque bar  ;D

We used something like that for half a tire. Then we got ahold of a air chisel. That think cuts great

Not the greatest lol, had some issues with it cutting out, but for the first time out i wasn't terribly disapointed, I had the rear axle torn apart welded and back in the night before I left for tgw, it almost didn't make the trip at all !!
