Title: Toggle Switch Glow Plugs?/Where Can I get a fuel check valve?
Post by: RIP_K52007 on April 10, 2012, 01:49:50 PM
Anyone rigged up a toggle switch to glow plugs? Pretty sure they are not working on my suburban. It was starting up and running fine yesterday during the day but when I came home last night about 15-20 degrees colder it wouldnt start at all.

Or how do you check to see if they are working? My light comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off I just dont know if the actual plugs are working.

check the glow plugs frist. take a test light hook on + side of the battery. take unhook the wire to the glow plug touch your test light to it, if it lights up glow plug is good, if it dose not no good.  that easy.

If you book them to a switch, use a momentary push button.  If you forget and leave the toggle on, you will burn out the glow plugs.

Momentary, they are only on when you have your finger on the button.

Did this to my old 6.2 M1008.

Watch the volt meter, if it drops to about nine volts, then jumps back up when the glow plug light goes off, they are working....

My volt meter only moves when I'm starting it, even then it only drops to about 11 volts. I gotta swing by work and grab my test light when I get by there.   Kinda thinking its not the cause of my no starts tho... i think the fuel is draining down the line and back into the tank when its off.

Anyone know where I can get a inline check valve?

Volt meter works in the on position, which is also when the glow plugs should be working.
