Title: chicken coop
Post by: RIP_K52007 on April 16, 2012, 04:05:05 PM
I'm building a chicken coop, i was always told if the building was to house farm animals you did not need a building permit. Just making sure thats still true, I know we built them all over my dad's property and nobody ever said anything.

kinda figured that would be the case. Afraid to go ask because if I have to have a permit they will be watching my yard. Maybe I'll get someone else to go ask for me haha

I don't think there is a penalty for not having, just have to buy one if they catch you. Usually if its not permanent, ( footings), and smaller than 100 sq. Ft permit isn't required

oh and my mom lives in flint township, and they just built a permanent coop and didnt have to get a permit, even tho the law says they do, my step dad went down there to get one and they laughed and said he was the first one to come in to get a permit for a chicken coop and told to just go build it. So IDK every place is different lol

chickens are fun to raise we currently have 13 of them and one rooster.       just remember if your guna get a rooster only get one or they'll fight over the hens unless kept separate from each other or have there own flock of hens too IE: separate coops and runs.......umm the hens do not need to have a rooster to leg eggs,  and roosters can get quite annoying lol they never shut up, but have some pretty cool colors to them depending on what ya get :)

if anyone has any questions about em let me know, we been raising chickens for awhile :)

is there a particular breed your gonna get??

I always liked Rhode Island reds, nice big brown eggs, and they lay eggs in winter time too.
