I finally got my bogger running well enough to put her into gear but it seems like the tcase is stuck in neutral or something. My set up is a th350 with a 208 and there is no lever on the side of the 208, there is just the rectangular plate selector on the side of the tcase. I am wondering what way that plate must be facing to be in gear. I tried searching the forum and the Internet but I wasn't able to find anything about it.
I tried moving the selectors every which way but i cant seem to get it to move very far. It moves for about 10 seconds in 1st gear and then nothing. Also there is no reverse. I'm wondering if this is a tcase problem or something tranny related. The trans was working fine before the rebuild. If someone knows which way the selector needs to be please let me know!
4 Lo is all the way forward meaning when u look at it from the right side u want to rotate it clockwise.
Okay, that's the rectangular selector, what about the small selector thing in the center of the rectangular selector? I don't know if there supposed to move freely or together, but mine move independently... Or the other way around? This is my first truck so I'm kinda confused
picture? and mine goes forward towardss the motor for 4 lo , and i dont have a shifter as well so i have to do it under my rig but it s always in 4x4 anyways

your problem almost sounds like a NP203 full time case left in HI range with the hubs unlocked...........it will have very similar symptoms to what you described.
Your case is a aluminum Np208 correct? and not a cast iron Np203
Wow what was thinking. Yes I do have a 203! Not a 208... Thanks for the help. But still how do I engage it in 4 low loc?

to do it the easy way...........
You need the buy the Linkage BOX...........it bolts on to your T-case adaptor, and the linkage hooks onto the side of the T-case ( small flat plate you described).....also you need the shifter lever........or you could make one..........and then bolt it to the part of the of the lever that pokes up through the floor.......its already drilled for 2 bolt holes that the factory lever bolts up against.
Something TOLD me that you had a 203...........when you described the center of the flat bar that also rotated forward or backward...............208 doesnt have that............and the 203 does!!

Like just moving the rectangular tab towards the motor and that center flat piece moved either forward or back? I dont have room for the linkage and id prefer not to cut holes in the floor of the truck.
I can move the rectangular tab by hand and the center one with a small wrench... i just want to know which way they need to be.

without a 203 in front of me, I cant tell ya on that one........which way the adjustment needs to go......somebody else on here can.
once you find where 4 low is at, you could put alittle bit of weld on it.....to keep it locked in 4lo.
But honestly (my opinion only) I would get the lever....so you can select what range you want....when you want it. The shift box is probably 20/25 bucks....and you can probably get that with the lever....hell maybe even the rubber shifter boot.
putting a hole in the floor wouldnt make a big mess either.
I'm not sure, but other members posting on here might have the same setup that you want........T-case locked in 4low....and no lever inside the cab.......I'd be curious to know what they think of that set up.
Thanks a ton for your help, i really appreciate it. My only concern would be the body lift that i have probably wouldn't accommodate the lever set up, but i will see whats going on, and play with it till i get it right.
If i remember correctly, in your awesome write up on the tcases, you said that in 4 high it acts like an open diff and allows the front and rear to spin at different speeds? That might be when i can't get it to move very far.... I dont have my front drive shaft on because the rear has 4.10s and the front is still on 3.73 cause i have got around to changing them yet. But if it runs like an open diff, then it wouldnt hurt anything if i put the front drive shift on then would it?
do u have lockouts or no?
No lockouts. 14 bolt rear and 10 bolt front.

with your front driveshaft OUT.....you should be operating the T-case in HI LOC.........its actually 4 HI, the reason you have to do this is because the Case is FULL time.......and can sense that there is NO power going to the front axle because of NO driveshaft.....you would have to do the same thing if you had the driveshaft installed and manual hubs unlocked (if you had them) and thats if you wanted to operate the truck in a form of 2wd.

I never had luck keeping a 203 in lo lock without a shifter (or with one) but I havent run one in 5-6 years lol
