Title: Upright header issue!
Post by: CBakes on April 20, 2012, 12:08:42 AM
Hey guys, just installed a new set of uprights and the driver side header is hitting the brake reservoir. What are the tricks to fixing this? What have you done?

I need to gain about 3/4" at least. Thought about that too.

That won't cure it though when the torque factor makes the motor twist it could still hit them, are they foward off set

Take the booster off I don't know how close your headers are but taking that off will move the master cylinder back 3 to 4 inches

bend the header a bit?   switch to a hydroboost?

could also pull the booster, and modify the booster mount (preferibally with a large hammer) to point the master cylinder more toward the driver side?

if I take the booster off, will I basically be braking old school both feet on the pedal style? And yes they are forward offset.

I had to remove my booster, even with forward offset.

Its not that bad w/o booster.   Works even better w/ rocks and pinion brake, sends u thru the windshield.  lol

also dump the plastic master and get a steel one or you'll melt it.

I understand about the loss of power. I'm running mine off road only, trailering and my old headers wouldn't allow my torque bar from trans to tcase to go on. I am also running mufflers (schoenfeld ) for now and I'm looking at super trapp baffles or dirt pro mufflers before the dunes trip. That should help some as far as back pressure n noise. I've run my other  open, and didn't notice a huge difference. And now I can stop breaking all those damn exhaust hangers!! LOL!

i think you can run a master cylinder off a old s10 pick up manual style and get rid of the booster and still have good brake pedal with one foot most of my friends are doing it on rat rods think its back in the early 80s s10 manual master ya looking for

I had mine made short too. 25" and the mufflers are 6" tall.

I took off my booster( stopped fine) and moved my master over a hole. Made a new hole in firewall and made a bracket under dash . And my uprights are strait up not forward offset

move booster and master outward towards d/s fender and relocate brake pedal out ward as well you will be driving two foot but most people do that anyway
