tryin to decide if i wanna stick with my one tons with 5.38s or swap over to rockwells..... running 40" boggers right now.... wanna go to a 44" bogger or possibly a 44-50" tractor tire.....
pros and cons of ea axle fellas........ and go! lol
rocks!
44 boggers depending on motor would be ok, but if u really wana run tractors u should think about rocks, pros to rocks are strength and top load for better driveshaft angles, cons would be weight, no other gear options, and u have to convert to hydro steering and pinion brakes so its gona cost a chunk to convert from traditional axles to rocks, but can be cheaper if ure needing chromoly shaft and other things for 1 tons, so honestly it depends on your truck, engine, tire size, and what you want to do with it, to be able answer which is better, hope that helps
thanks you for the replies... i have everything to convert to hydro... was planning on that this year any way.... i am running a 550hp big block this year and will probably see a 150-200 hit of nitrous, have a feeling with my heavy right foot and more hp this year i am gonna be breaking axles lol.... will leaf springs be ok with rocks? not in the budget to link it this year... would deff build traction bars to keep the axle rap under control. how hard is the pinion brakes to setup?
with 44s 1 tons anything bigger rocks I am not a fan of rocks but for big tires you need big axles... and as long as your 1 ton front is open you should be ok with that power may need 35 spline outers.
Yes I had leaf springs on my rocks..

x2
Im thinkin cut 44 boggers with 1 tons and alot of hp to keep up with the tractor trucks. im usin chromoly shafts.
ive been running 1 tons for 3 years and havent broke a thing. factory shafts and up until this spring because of a stiff u joint still had 79 joints in axle. 6000 pounds and 640 horse bbc. also uncut new 44 boggers all 4 corners. ive jumped it 10 feet off the ground at silver lake never broke. ive ran 48 inch tall r1 tractors never broke. and i have a heavy foot!!!!
D60 on 40's at the dunes. Rocks, they are already geared and tuff as p00.
^ what did u do? Jump test hill at 80mph? loll
not this thread again...
Different people can make different things last.
We all know people that have big motors, 44s and 1 tons... and they live. Just like we know guys who are breaking Rockwell shafts.
So many factors to take into consideration. The type of wheeling you do makes a big difference too. If the tires slip all the time... things last. Tires hook... things break.
Type of driver matters too. Take the same truck... tons of power and big tires... One guy knows when to let off and it lives... the other guy never takes his foot out of it.... stuff breaks.
Then you just have people that break everything all the time, no matter what.
:-)
im runnin 450 horse, 38.5 boggers with half tons with chromoly, finely broke at tgw after 6 years.
build a nice set of one tons and you should be ok

it depends a ton on the driver and with a tire that size one tons are the limit
ROCKS!
I run 44s all cut with 650 hp and go thru at least on ring and pinion a year, but I also don't ever let out!!
Rocks for life ++peace
I ran rockwells with 44 boggers and hated them. My dana 60s went better then I put 18.4-26 R1 on my rocks totaly different truck tractor tires turn easier and go better (on rocks any way) and tractor tires cost less you can sell your swampers buy tractor tires and have money left. 44 just arent enough tire for the weight. So I would make your choice on tires first then get axles to match.
