Title: 98 explorer wont start
Post by: fast78ford on May 18, 2012, 01:09:59 AM
hey guys, a friend bought a 98 explorer with a blown engine, we put a good motor in and it wont spark, just rolls over.

took it to a mechanic and he says the anti theft is acting up and to take it to a dealer. anything we can do to disconnect the anti theft?

Try googling it and see if there is any way to "re learn" the passive anti theft module without a scan tool. May try disconnecting the battery for 10 or 15 minutes. All your engine grounds and connections at the firewall and such complete and tight? Just a few ideas before u head to the dealer.

I dont think the truck will start if the anti theft is unhooked/ disabled.

Yeah, most vehicals wont start at all if you start cutting at, or tampering with the anti-theft.  Yes try google first because most cars have a "special" way if you do certain things, will reset the anti-theft so it will start. Like turning the driver door key back and forth 4 times each, or holding the brake down while turning on the windshield wiper's and honking the horn 8 times lol. j/k. After doing that to my moms jeep we had the same problem, and found out if you close the drivers door, and turn the lock 3 or 4 times to the left (if I remember right) and after that it started right up. good luck.

On my00 mustang the pats(thief) will cut thefuel not the spark..... Car won't start with an ace hardware made key.....goes in to their thief mode and cuts the fuel.....needs a programed key.....
