Title: Where to find shocks?
Post by: Quick406 on June 18, 2012, 04:48:16 PM
My jeep is almost done and now I need to find some shocks, with the tires on and the jeep sitting on the ground the front shock mounts measure 24in. From bolt hole to bolt hole and the rears are 20 in. So how do I go about finding shocks by size not vehicle ? Never had to buy shocks before so not sure how to get the right measurements or how they measure a shock ( in the compressed state or extended ?) any help would be great! Thanks

you need a extended and compressed length and then it all depends on what kind of shock you want gas, nitrogen, coil over, remote resovoir check out FOA shocks.com and off road engineering.com pretty helpful info in their tech sections

Your gonna  need to know how much up travel and down travel the suspension is going to have, pick the right length shock that will give you the best performance, if you run.too short you suspension won't flex to the maximum potential, if you go too long your drive shaft  can pull out or bind up,  need to flex your suspension and measure from bolt to bolt, and make that the max length, and on the opposite side of axle measure from bolt to bolt and get your collapsed length, then look for a shock that fits that range,

bilsteinshocks.com should have lengths listed for extended and collapsed
