Title: Ring and Pinion break-in
Post by: JSvoboda on June 19, 2012, 11:38:48 AM
My bogger isn't exactly road legal so driving it 20 miles wont work for me.  What do you guys do to break-in a ring and pinion on a bogger?

Just had the ring and pinion/pig assembly replaced in the rear axle of my work rig, '96 Pete 357 10-wheeler log truck. Has lockers in the diffs as well as the interaxle lock for 8 wheel drive.

Just shy of 5 grand for the pig to be rebuilt . . . no break-in time at all. Went straight on the road.

If these are fine without break-in, mud trucks have nothing to sweat.

Just a point of reference..
with my 9".. ran a "breakin" and then rechecked alignment (I set it up myself, crush washer style)
just for my own piece of mind..

misalignment will cause premature wear over time..
the set I took out were SHARP at the gear tooth edges.
