Title: friends truck. MEAN lifter tick
Post by: Jthomas on July 01, 2012, 03:14:50 AM
my friend just baught a 90 gmc serria and it had what i thought to be a mild lifter tick. i just told him, aw dude, dont worry, ill just set all your valves fer ya and she will be good to go. keep in mind, the guy said that the engine was just rebuilt by his friend.

so we drive it home, almost end up dying from other issues. a couple days later i set all the valves to factory specs for him. we start it up, and its still ticking, but not as bad.  he just said, o well, im not too worried.

so he drove the truck for like 2 weeks now, and he came over to show me his new tires, he took me for a little cruise. and like the second he started up the truck, it was like the meanest tick ive ever heard. i yelled at him to turn it off. hes like, WHAT?! WHAT?!   i was like dude?? you didnt hear your engine???!   hes like, ohh yea, its fine, it does it all the time.

so good god, when you drive it down the road, its like no longer a tick, but like sounds like the lifter is like about to shoot out of the engine or somthin. its his only truck, and he doesnt want to tear into it untill he knows what it is, to make the task of changing the lifter alot shorter.

but anyways, i can guarentee its the lifter. but just for my own curiosity, how long ya think he can drive on that? and the trucks a 5spd, and he drives it like hes in the movie fast 5.

and since its lasted this long, any chances its not the lifter?

the engine doesnt miss

there is a lesson to be learned here loll
