the name came from my buddy but im sure it has been used before. Anywho... this is the start of my second bogger. the frame is built out of 6x2 1/4 wall thing is solid for sure but it is actually pretty light. with the frame rails and cradle it wieghed right around 475lbs. im going to have fourlink front and rear with coil springs. going to run a dana 60 front with hyd. steering. got a corporate 14 bolt rear. both with 4:56 gears. im running a stock 400 sbc right now. i already started on a 406 for the future. turbo 350 trans and a 205 t case. not 100% sure on what body im going to through on it but im pretty excited about this thing.
more pics... hoping to have four lnk done in a week or so. ordered my axle trusses from blue torch fab.
looks good!
thanks alot, my first truck i put way too much time in and it wasnt any where i wanted it to be, so i just went ahead and did my own thing and its been alot of fun. i like the fact its all my own custom design too.
good start keep up the good work, and have fun doing it at the same time.
sounds like a cool project
yea its been a good time so far. ordering DOm for the fourlinks today and heim joints.
pics of the bluetorch fab 14 bolt axle truss.

The front truss is about $300 shipped to the door and the rear was $225. but i tell you what worth every penny. i couldnt build these things for what i paid for them.
If you don't mind me asking, what's te cost of the axle braces/supports? Looks like something I need to get ahold of.
the front comes with the diff cover too. its a 3/8" thick where the bolts mount up to the big and 1/4" thick for the cover. the braces are all half inch thick so they arent going to break.
Well it looks wicked, I'll be ordering these for my truck for sure.
Looking good, what's your wheel base?
i made it 132" like a full size chevy since that was the original body i wanted to run. but im just going to put the cage on it and make it like a rock crawler i guess. not what i want to do but it will work for now.
Nothing wrong with going buggy style it works
i wanna do a full size but its hard to find a good solid cab. there either rusted away or everyone scrapped them lol.
I know saturday you said something about. Wanting older iron for it but what about a 90s body sty there has to be a few sittin around, did tom ever give you a price on that old pickup that set out in the weeds

no he never did i asked him a couple times. and i havent really thought about a newer body style actually. good idea tho.
Tube buggy would be sweet, but if you mud it, plan on getting dirty!! Lol at least with your custom built frame you can put whatever you want on it with ease
i know thats whats sweet about it. everyone wants me to just put a single seat itn the middle and run it lol
What are you going to run for tires
Quote from: erikmud on August 04, 2012, 03:57:58 AM
What are you going to run for tires
Im going to run 11.2-24 tractor tires, and boggers
How tall do those measure
the new shocks with limiter straps.
Sounds like a good project
its been a fun time im on a time dead line for aug. 24 since there are some sweet bogs on the 25. going to get my 1410 yokes and drive shafts made up tomorrow.
dude just take your time and do it right, there will be plenty of bogs after that.
actually ive done everything the way i wanted to do it so far. im slow at my shop right now so ive been getting like 8 hours a day to work on the truck, so its not super rushed. my big thing i have next fab wise is my roll cage, but i might just get one from jegs since i dont have bender or notcher. plus its hard to make a twelve point cage for 400 bucks.
Sound like you need two fat friends and a steel rim loll
the tire setup im going to be running. they measure out at 42" tall. 12" wide. if anyone is interested in running the setup for there one tons let me know i can get a whole package together for around $2000. thats 4 tires, rims, center hubs cut out for a 6.5 8 lug, inner tubes and whatever color paint you want. its a much cheaper alternative than a bogger and will weigh right around 150lbs.
Got the cage put on last night, i have everything tacked in place right now, gonna do the finish welds tonight.
rear pick
cool pics, but just wondering are you gonna close up the all the tubes to keep them from rusting from the inside out?

Yea i actually started capping them tonight and welded the rest of the cage up
Ive gotten alot done on the truck this last week. built the front clip for it, ran all my coolant lines, welded in all the floor and seat supports, shortened the front nose of the truck 20", started sanding it to get ready for the paint, ill have some pics up tomorrow night hopefully.

the more i think about he might of said they are off a camero maybe.
cool project!
thanks, been busting butt to get it done to run it and work out all the bugs so i can come out swinging in 2013
The headers kind of look like jeep fenderwell exit headers
idk, only reason i went with these instead of up rights was so i could put mufflers on if i go to the dunes
Thats what i got right now..i am planning on running the dunes alot instead of the mud, thats why i need some
got the fire wall and some other things done the last couple days.
i put some steel plate in the back window to protect my self and passengers in case of a strap breaking
got the orbital valve and bracket mounted from WIld Time Fab, and built a dash around it
put the floor in it too

Can u take a pix with it on the tractor tires and it is a sweet build
well todays maiden voyage went from awesome to not so awesome. everything worked great had some sheet metal issues, then on the last run of the day i lost oil pressure and she died. im kinda hoping the head gasket blew cause i found alot of oil blowing out of the valve cover. idk im tearing it down tomorrow to see what happened.

White smoke?
no smoke at all which was wierd. i had an over heat issue too, and i kept loosing coolant from boiling out the rad so im assuming the head gasket went. the engine is still cranking over and everything. im gonna do a compression test and a leak down test before i tear it apart.
F it run it the way it is
i burnt out the bridge between 5 and 7. from whet ive heard this is normal on a 400. so im just going to weld it and see if it will run lol.
Yea that's exactly why I don't like a 400sb. They have the symese cylinders and it creates hotspots.
Ur better off making a 350 block a 400 with the right bore and stroke combo.
so the four hundred didny make it thru the weekend so i picked up a 454 today. its not all prettied but if it gets me thru the rest of the year ill be happy
Well the big block i picked up was junk. so dad and i took the engine out of his 79' monte carlo so i can run the rest of the year. i got most of my little bugs figured out for this weekends fun and i also got it vinyled with my shop and my buddys tree service logos. and i nice logo for my name.

he wanted 1800 (way too much it seems to me), so i told him i wanna hear it run before i give you any coin and he said that was fine. brought it back put it in the truck bought a water pump, headers, and some other stuff to get it going had 250.00 in it before starting it. just to find it was junk and he wont budge on the price so its going back to his old home.
Yeah that's way to much
Yea, tell that guy to go get F'ed.
Wow ya thats way high and glad u took it back im looking at a 454 stock and 700r4 for 700 had 60000 and i no the guy and seen it run but its been sitting for a few years
well ran the truck a few more times this year took the engine out of my dads 79 monte carlo and ran it. Now im starting to get myself a new wheel and tire setup for next year. got 4 18.4-16.1 tractor tires. i started cutting them today. im on the look out for some 16x14 aluminum rims to mount them on. but here are some pics of my crap cut job lol.

Grinding tires is nasty and smokey, but does leave a nice finished look I did my last set of 44's with a tire buffing stone, they looked good, but not worth the time and effort to do it, at least for what I was doing, maybe a bigger grinding stone is beter

yeah then thy don't hook as good, sure they turn over easier but the loss of traction by not cutting them makes it a wash. But by cutting them you create more traction and a loss of a lot of weight in turn making ten turn over easier

Wel i got my ass in high gear today and got the bogger pretty much done. Took the small block out, put the big block in and ran the wiring for the TBI and mounted the computer. Got it all fire up and running awesome. put the springs on the big shocks and installed them. all thats left is sheet metal modifications.
