I have a 2002 silverado with the 5.3 the cats have been taken off and I had a flowmaster 44 put on. My question is if I have muffler man build a y pipe to run duals out of it and add some tips will it get louder? I thinks it's to quiet right now. I was just trying to think of a way to add more tone to it with out putting a new muffler on.
First question is will the Muffler Man mod the exhaust without replacing cats? It is illegal for a shop to do it.
Tone can depend on where the exhaust exits. Dual sides is what I like best, it echos off the buildings and such rather than getting dumped out the back, which is quieter.
Under truck is also louder, but can be annoying in the winter with the smoke and such rolling out from under it while it warms up.
This will make it louder though for about 150 bucks:

. . . Mine's a '00 5.3 with original exhaust, besides a Flowmaster Super 44 muffler.
Factory air inlets have silencer boxes in them, getting rid of that and letting the truck breathe creates more intake noise, and therefore, more noise in the exhaust as well.
yea it will give it a little better tone, how long have you had the mufflers on there, if there new, wait for them to burn in and the tone and sound will be a lot better, this is done just by driving it around....
And no it is NOT illegal for them to pull the cats out... provided they put in a piece of test pipe. this is the law. In Michigan we have no emissions tests so you don't ever have to worry about them testing it unless the law changes.

It is illegal for a shop to work on an exhaust without replacing the missing federal emissions. They can test, but cats have to be put back on.
Federal law is above state law.
Try some of the shops around. Most won't do it, some will ignore the law though.
or just get a thrush glasspack dual outlet muffler. i have one on my ford, no complaints here..single pipe in, right after my cats, duals out the back
Ok I have been looking at that air intake for about a week now just trying to get the money around for it. The cats have been off for about a month now muffler man put a pipe in there for me and they have also put the muffler back on it. The muffler is about 5 months old right now. I was thinking side exit pipes just haven't been able to find a good photo of one to get a idea from.

Ahh okay. My Autozone had it in stock, and I "liked" their page on fb and accepted an app to get a "$25 off coupon" to use on it, then unliked them and blocked the app. ==roll So I got mine for $125+tax
Here's my 95 with them, basically stock exit:

x2 federal law is above state law.... federal law also says that marijuana in illegal, yet states have deemed it legal, and a lot of people use it.
Tapout.. If you can't find a shop that will do it for ya, bring it on over to me, and I'll hook ya up :) a lot cheaper than a shop too.
I ran true duals on my 94' and had both pipes exit off the passenger side between ext.cab and rear wheel, it looked good and sound awesome, I wanted to go one pipe on each side but gas tank was in the way on driver side. Sorry I Can't find any pics and I sold it about a year ago, but I find some I'll post em for ya :)
Upright lol i would love that idk how the niebors would tho lol I have been wanting to do a single in and dual out right in front of the rear tires NASCAR style lol but I got a good deal on some 6 inch tips so I'm thinking out the back on each corner. If anyone one has some good cool idears I would love to hear them.
if i get my breaker box in this week bring it over, i'll fire the welder up and fix it ;D ==djdj
I got a couple of chrome stacks :)
Lol I thOught about stacks to but it's a gas motor so idk lol. Maybe for side pipes. Lol

loll you wouldn't be the first to put em on a gasser.... they look a little funny when ya know its not diesel, but they sound pretty wicked..... they are like 4 or 5'' so that would be some huge side pipes but would be kinda cool? but thats just me cuzz I never seen it done before.
I know right. And I like being the first to do things. All I know is that I'm really not the impressed with the 44 super flowmaster sounds good on first start up but then quiets down I should of left it straight piped lol
yea I'm not to big a fan of the 44's either I had the super 40 series on mine and loved it, just a little bit tinny in the real high rpms, at idle it had a slight rumble so, but when you woke her up everyone knew about it loll, I actually grew quite accustom to having both pipes exit on passenger side.... It was always nice to see someones face when the driving with a window down and I drop a gear next to them ha ha ha loll Pretty much only did that to them richie looking people that gave me a bad look cuz "here comes one them rednecks with their loud and lifted truck" :)
If I can find a vid on youtube of them muflers sound i'll post it for ya :)
first vid isn't the best as its getting the echo of from the garage but its comparing open headers to the 40 and 44, noticeable difference, and in his description he says its a 86-95' 350 he put in there
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViZoU9pmi0U# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViZoU9pmi0U#)
second vid is a little better and its the a single 40 one in 2 out and the true dual 40's then dual 44s like I said I love em and thats what I always use on my street vehicles, :)
