So I keep throwing the belts on my new motor .60 over 350 around 400 hp. What setups do you guys use? I'm using the stock v belts right now.
Im running a serp belt on my sbc, I used the complete setup, all accessories from a 91 burban, bolts right on, few of the bolt holes don't line up but there's enough there to make it solid, have to change the water pump too since it spins the opposite way, think I paid like 30-40 bucks for a new one at autozone, also since I used the 91 alternator the pigtail needs to be rewired, and bought a new upper radiators hose that the 91 burban would take, so it routed it around the alt.

Ok thanks if I can't get them to stay on then ill switch it over to serp belt
Check all your pulleys make sure they are square, true and inline,no nicks or damage to them and make sure the harmonic balance ain't walking around, watch all the.pulleys as it idles and when giving it throttle, you may even be able to.watch the belts start to twist at high rpm, then they will kick off
serp
v belts suck over 6000 rpm im runnin serp tbi 87-95 ?
go to a smaller pully with a deep groove my dad has v belts in his buggy with a 604 ci engine kept throwing them then a buddy from the drag racing world said he switched to a smaller pully and took care of his problem so dad did the same and hasnt thrown a belt sence and its alot cheeper than a serp set up unless you already have one
Junk yard serp, love those things. Haven't tossed a belt in years. 89 Chevy pickup without air pump
serp all the way :)
what kind of belts are you run? get dayco belts or belts without notchs in v part of the belt. what happens is the notchs let the belt walks up the pulley. years back i work at parts store i changed the belts on my truck and could not rev it passed ideal the belt would come off. got some belt with out the notches thay stayed on.
will that serp setup bolt to a bbc
ok thanks guys I'm going to try to get the belts to stay on one more time if they don't ill swap over to a serp setup

no you'd have to get one from a bigblock
I've run serpentine belts for about 12 years now and the only time I had trouble was when the tensioner decided to sieze up, which inturn busted the alternater and bracket a few times before I figured out the problem changed the tensioner and havn't had trouble since.
i ran v belts on both my sbc and my bbc i have now and the only time i had a problem was with my small block. havnet had an issue yet with my bbc. i found out with the small block that if i spit a belt once it kept doin it if i used the same belt. (i had a bunch that i kept replacing with until i ran out) ended up going and bought a good v belt and never had an issue after that. dont remember the brand tho
