When I put a new motor in my 90 K5 blazer, I wanted a factory look, so I went with a Semi Gloss black from pan to air cleaner.

For any color though I would recomend the following.

Wire wheel your block, heads, intake, ect......

Use a good high heat engine PRIMER......to hold the paint.

A good high heat engine ENAMEL...............and put several coats of paint on it...........it will last a lot longer than one coat.

I'm not painting my heads. I'm polishing

Yes it will be primered. Lol

I WANT to be able to tell if it's leaking.

The block is getting hot tanked, no need to clean any farther.

Gm corporate blue.  Ford blue is what my father in law does all his motors.  All Chevy btw.  Very high hp.  The ford blue shows leaks great.

Whatever you do, don't go black.

If you end up hunting down future oil leaks you will thank me.

How about Detroit Diesel blue/teal whatever they call it ?

why not do gold on the block but copper on the valve covers?  Chrome is over done on valve covers, it would be cool to see something copper plated for once.

I don't have chrome covers. Polished aluminum.

awesome, like I said chrome valve covers are overdone, I would rather have polished aluminum than chrome but I think a gold block with copper valve covers would be awesome.

Yea man. I don't really have THAT MUCH chrome. A lot of it is just polished aluminum, only chrom I have is the water pump, timing cover, maybe an alternator.
