Title: What kind of headers do you use?
Post by: Jthomas on September 13, 2012, 09:45:12 PM
Ive been header shopping like crazy for a while now. I found a lot of k30 bbc headers that sound like they will fit but I was just wondering if anyone has had any installation issues with larger pipes?

And what's the difference between a 87' blazer and a 88'? Every part I look for on my k5 goes up to year 87, and never have parts for an 88.

I really don't know what kind of headers will fit just as a bolt in. I don't want to modify, I've called companies and asked about their headers, they say yeah, they will fit. Then I look online, and people say that they have to modify stuff.

I have a bbc th400 and np205 (mated)
Anyone have an 80s full size truck and the same setup as me with full length headers with no problems? What kind? How do u like them?

I want like a min of 2" pipes
Im not going to run uprights.
Thanks

There is no difference from 88-91 k5s. Most sites just stop at 87 because that's the last year for all the trucks for that body style. The only fitment issue I have seen was in my buddy's 1ton frame, the frame is a little thicker than 1/2 and 3/4 frames so we have to grind a little on the frame.

But I have the EXACT same body style as an 87

And what headers does he have?

Yes k5s and suburbans kept the square body till 91 trucks changed in 88. I don't know what brand headers he had. If you find a set for 87 and older for a truck they will fit in your k5

I have a sm465 with linkage clutch and a 241. I didn't have any issues with fitment but I do think mine are 1.75. I just looked it up and looks like that's the most common size.

Hmmm. I may just have to get a 1.75 header and deal with it until I can make my own.
What kind do you have?

That's what I would do is just get a cheaper set till you can make your own. I don't know what brand as they are old and beat up. My buddy got a set last year (summit brand) and they look good for like $115 new.

Thanks. I'll look around some more.

But if someone has the same set up as me, please let me know

Found these. They are for 2wd but they should work for you.

Why wouldn't they fit?  In a 2wd they have to bend around a huge crossmember that you don't have and you have a body lift. I don't see you having any issues

I'll give headman a call and ask them.
And plus, I really don't need perfect headers, I just want to start my truck and have it run properly. And later I'm going to build a killer set of fender well headers.

OK thought you didn't want to build your own. If that's the case I would just go with the cheaper summit headers. Do you plan on driving it on the street with the fenderwell headers?

Sorry forgot to explain. I'm leaving or school in two weeks. I need to start the truck, but they don't need to be great headers, but once I get to school I'll make a pair. I just don't want to make them now. And at my school I'm aloud to drive open headers. Truck really isn't going to see much road at all.
