Alright guys heres my problem. I had my trans completely overhauled because the trans was slipping going into 3rd. Well i put it back together and it still slips going into 3rd and now.doesnt shift into 4th at all. So what the hell could be causing this. Both my dad and myself are stumped and i want to figure tbis out before it snows seeing this is my plow truck any input would help thanks....also this is a 4l60e in a 2003 silverado
My pops is a trans mechanic, he says you should take it back to the builder, that he messed up somewhere. he said it sounds like maybe something in the clutch hub that is screwed up. sorry its not much info but i figured i would put in my 2 cents.
Wells heres the funny part...when i first put it in i broke one of the wires going to the trans plug and it didnt have 1st or 4th. It only had 2nd and 3rd and when it shifted to third then it shifted fine now that i have first gear it slips going into 3rd and still doesn't have 4th....could it be a weak pump and not getting enough pressure to operate now that i have 1st again
Or possibly something wrong with the valve body?
I'm going thru this on a 4l60e that I just rebuilt..... turns out its the valve body, the bore for one of the valves is scratched... mind you the trans before was burnt up all to hell, and wouldn't move in any gear... chunks of metal in the pan... the fluid looked like oil form a diesel engine loll so when I decided to cheap out and not get a new valve body... I was hoping it would all be good... it worked ok for about a week and then lost 4th, then was starting to slip into 3rd... so I got her all torn down again... just glad I didn't have to do the clutch packs all over again :)
but I put my money on the valve body, they are very easy to get scratched and the valves won't seal, especially if the trans was slipping real bad before the rebuild
who rebuilt it ?
My dad rebuilt the trans at dealership where he works...he has rebuilt them for me before with no problems so i dont think it was anything he did...he knows his stuff
No offense but if your dad rebuilt it... and knows his stuff.... then why are you on here asking us and not him?? just wondering... since he is the one who rebuilt it and knows what hes doing, he knows what he replaced and didn't replace in there, I would go to him first, we dont have all that info so we can only give ya info on our experinces with em, transmissions can be a real byTch to diagnose, as it could be just a messed up wire somewhere or it could be internal... Hard to really say with out having a scanner hooked up or actually doing the work on the truck :)
Well im saying my dad knows his stuff cuz he has been doing this for over 40 years. I have talked to my dad about it and he cant think nor has ever run into this of any reason for this to be doing this.he is sure it is nothing that he did but was thinking it may be something he over looked in the valve body or like you said a wiring issue. Im asking the guys here hoping that someone has run into the same issue before and could tell me what it is.
Well like I said I ran into same issue and its the valve body.... It could be ur problem too but check all the wiring first... Thats easier than tearing into the trans again lol and if it does turn out to be valve body at least you can do that by just dropping the pan insead of whole trans again lol
Yea ive got.the valve body torn out already just waiting for a day off to crawl under it and pilut the other one in...i will let you know if it fixes my problem
Alright well i replaced the valve body in the trans and it doesnt seem to slip going into 3rd more but it still doesnt have 4 th gear so if u have any ideas of what else it could be throw ur ideas my way
did you check over the wiring? also.... It could be the gear on the back of the sunshell broke or stripped out.... very common on the 4l60e. That would give you 3rd but no 4th... but check the wiring, do everything you can to avoid pulling the trans again loll and I have been rebuilding trannys for a while but I do on occasion mess up so it is possible your ole man did too, usually when rebuilding a trans ya catch it before it goes back in but thats not always the case and its a real kick in the balls when you have to tear it all back down for something stupid loll
Yea i looked over the wiring and everything looked ok nothing out of the ordinary. I have a feeling im going to be pulling it back out no matter what...this sure is aggravating lol
