SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A Morgan Hill mother accused of using her 10-year-old daughter to shoplift groceries and then abandoning the child when store employees intervened appeared in court Tuesday, but did not enter a plea.
Authorities say during a shopping trip to a Safeway store last month Keelin had her daughter push a shopping cart with about $150 worth of groceries out of the store. When the daughter was stopped by employees, police say Keelin drove off.
Keelin is free on $50,000 bail. She is forbidden from seeing her children, who are staying with her mother.
