Been hearing some crazy prices for a 20 year old guy to get basic insurance on his first car. He didn't buy a car yet, just picked some random makes and models off craigslist from the early 2000's and called around town.
Where's the best place for cheap insurance for young drivers?
There is no cheap ins. for kids :( Try the online places like progressive, thats where my kids got theres
there usually is a drop at age 25 for rates, but I don't think he's going to have any luck, besides, you get what you pay for, I pay $240 a month and my agent and the ladies working there have always treated my family and I very well, and they've always gone out of their way to help me when I needed it, well worth the price.
Get a 4 door vehicle. I have been told that any 2 door vehicle is considered a sports car.
all risk on flushing rd in flint been going there since i started driving 109 down 95 month least for me anyway
Parents is the only way for cheap insurance have them add you to their plan, I remember paying 145 dollars a month for plpd when I was 18
There is no way to avoid high rates and a new high risk driver, just tell him to be a smart driver and do everything possible to avoid moving violation tickets, I wasn't very smart as a new driver and racked up a few points, now it's around 1200 every six months for plpd in my name it's reduclous

The problem with that is if the parents add them to their policy the parents inswill go up, been through that.

^This
And I've heard the parents assets can become a target in a lawsuit. The prices I'm fiddling with through e-surance based on random cars on craigslist is $240-$300 a month. Going to be tough for him to eat + drive.
No.
im 18 and pay 135 a month for plpd
get a 4 door 4 or v6 and auto or a wagon
Wow you guys are paying some high prices.
I started off on my parent's policy then got my own. Previous policy history under my dad helped me a lot. I had 4 other points at one time but my insurance was never a crazy amount.
I think at first when I got my 95 Z71, on a $2700 loan, my insurance plpd (dad was a cosigner on the loan) was $140 a month for it. I was 19 and only had a job for 2 weeks when I got the loan and insurance.
Now at 24 years of age with 2 points my 2000 Silverado is only $74 a month plpd with my red truck on storage insurance included in that price. With plpd on my red truck and full coverage (had a loan against it I was paying the truck off) on that Silverado my insurance was only $175 . . .
Don't forget your credit history. It IS USED to determine your insurance. Mine has never dropped below the lower 700s since my first cosigned loan. Every other loan I have had since I got without a cosigner.
yupp i pay a little over 106 plpd on my cougar with the 3.8 supercharged, being a "sports car" makes the premium higher, my 2 door 98 grand am GT was the same way, owned it when i was 18 and was paying 148 a mo for plpd, i just got my 2000 f250 insured for 66 bucks a month. so my rates are dropping and the rates really depend on the style of car, if its an econ 4 door, insurance is cheaper than a 2 door.
My step daughter is 19, and it was $92 a month to add her, the car was $12 for plpd!
im 19 and im under my parents inc i pay $80 a month for plpd on my dodge,i also have never been in a accident or pulled over sence i started driving 3 yrs ago, which helps alot
I pay $115 a month for plpd its went down about $4 a year for the last 4 years. Hopefully get a break at 25. Mines not all that bad considering my record, give denise a call at walker agency... they shop around for you and go WAY out of their way for their customers.
989-345-1570 Teller derik sent ya. :)
couple days ago I mailed my payment to their old address accidentally and one of them went to the post office on their lunch and got it before it got rejected back to me.

also being on your parents policy, also probably having a multi car discount, and most likely multi policies with them (home life auto ect.) all help the price come down, i'm sure if you were to do it on your own, double that and itd be pretty close. i know, i went through the same thing when i was 20 and got my super duty, under my parents policy it wasnt bad, it was like 110, as soon as i dropped off it went to 160 a mo.
$45-75month for plpd depending on vehicle , $125 for full coverage when i had the expedition
Paying 89 for full coverage on my blazer
Try state farm.
Been on my own since 19, they were only like $120 a month for full coverage on a 3 year old 4x4 ranger, $25 a month full coverage on a 2 year old crotch rocket. Had like 3 points then also.
State farm! It was 60$ a month for 4 of my 5 vehicles just for plpd of course. Had a 93 f150 4x4, 88 jeep grand Cherokee chief 4x4, 91 oldsmobile cutlass siera sl, and a 89 Chevy k1500 4x4. Now I have my 97 Chevy k1500 4x4 but that's full coverage and that's 150 a month.
i pay 119 on my 89 k1500

State farm. And that's with a ticket and 2 points on my lisence. I go through Chris birk. He's a great agent. He's out of Ann arbor or dexter I can't remember.
But I also have perfect credit and they base it off your credit score aswell. So you gotta keep that in mind to.

ill have to see about the state farm he in owosso . i just did it on there web site and thay wanted 172 . and that was the lowest there is .
It's better to call on the phone. They can adjust deductables and different coverages to get you the cheapest price.
yeah my progress was the cheapest i could get online . i didn't have much time i just had to get it on the road asap
Yeah that's understandable. I would deffinatly recomend calling around you get better prices. You also get better prices if you belong to credit unions or special organizations. Unfortunatly I didn't get my nra discount because they don't count lol. But I qualified for a credit union discount because of my auto loan. Keep that sheet that has all the different coverages near by. It tells you like bodily injury, property damage, what ever else.
i pay 300 a month for plpd on a 07 cobalt..im 21 and i got a dwi....DO NOT GET A DWI its the worst thing for insurance!
All insurance is expensive anymore my insurance lady told me they started penalizing you for 3 years for comp claims and they went back 3 years and my insurance should drop in 2014 lol she says they charge me because a deer ran into the side of my truck and they also are penalizing for glass and every two tows, that's awesome isn't it
