Title: SF VS FF ???
Post by: KORNBREAD on January 31, 2013, 12:51:57 PM
So I was looking around the net for some pics to show my buddy how to spot a Semi floating axle and a Full Floating axle. When I realized very fast how many people differ over which axle is stronger and better for offroading. So it got me wondering what you guys think is the better axle for offroading/bogging  ??? ???  FF vs SF

Yeah but if the wheel bearing  goes out on the ff the tire comes off.

unless the wheel bearings blow apart or the spindle nut comes off the tires stay on with a ff. also ff have stronger gears and  carrier from what I know.

FF. All the shaft does is turn the hub, no weight on the shaft. On a sf, the weight is on the axle, and has to turn it

x2
FF vehicle weight is carried by the spindle allowing the axle shaft to only support torque.
SF - axle shaft carries torque as well as vehicle weight.

I have NEVER heard of anyone being in favor of a SF over a FF for wheeling, for the reasons everyone already mentioned.

For a wheel to come off with a FF because of bearings... if you let your wheel bearing get THAT bad, you deserve a wheel to fall off.

they use dana 60s, with c clip eliminators. axle can break, but cant come out.
