Title: 98 vortec hard start when cold
Post by: 73chevytruck on February 06, 2013, 01:11:50 AM
Have a 98 chevy truck that will crank over awhile before it will start. But when it does start it runs and drives fine. And will start right up when its warm. I did a fuel pressure test today and it went up to 60psi and then fell to zero. Turn the key off and back on and it will do the same thing. So what does this need a fuel pressure regulator?

How old is the cap and rotor? If they are old or the cheap ones from auto zone id check them.

Saturday I'm going to pull the top intake off and then hook the lines back up and see if there are any leaks in any of the lines or if the regulators leaking.
The cap rotor and plugs were sapose to have been changed in November.

i just had to replace my cap and rotor again and i have the good 5 year ones from auto zone that cost 69.00.and they was done like less than a year ago. i read the little page with the directions and they said that the vent tubes in the housing could be clogged if it has aintemitten start, accsesive coloring,or eccesive corosion. and mine was green from corossion. so ya might take a look at it

Well I replaced the fuel pressure regulator. And the whole sender/injector lines. And the truck was still starting hard so made a adapter that I could test the fuel pressure before the fuel filter. And it went up to 60 then went down to zero slowly. So the problem is in the gas tank. Gonna pull the tank next weekend and take a look at the pump and rubber hose above it.

Well decided to pull the gas tank tonight. And there was 2 pin holes in the gas line going from the pump to the sending unit put a new line on it put it all back togeather and now it Will start right up. Going to see how it is in the morning.
