recently purchased a 1986 k10 it has a carbed 350 edelbrock 1406 with electric choke dont know alot about this motor from previous owner other than it is suppose to be a newer crate motor ??? I bought it from a teenage kid that had just bought it from sombody else it runs decent at times but somtimes not always the idle will be real high I have been playing with the timing and a/f jets but that seems to do no good when the idle is high I just rewired the electric choke because voltage was not at 12 volts or above while running now it is and choke seems to be functioning properly the idle goes high at start up from lets say the first start of the day and will not drop off untill I have drove it choke closed or open and when it drops off it is almost a stalling idle and somtimes will stall if it is in gear and I punch the gas some suggestions or insight would be great thank you
Check to see if choke plate is sticking.... also check for a vacumm leak, check all vac hoses, and get some carb clean and spray some around carb base gasket and intake gaskets.... if idle goes up you found your leak
Electric choke probably needs adjusted. The choke opens up after a short time but not until you tap the gas pedal. Then it should idle at whatever the idle adjustment screw is at.
thanks for the replies I believe it was the choke I think I got it adjusted now installed headers running pretty good now those headers made a world of difference, again thanks GotMud?
