Well I just picked up this 84 c10 and the paint needs some lovin! Has some rust but not bad. Looks like someone tried to half ass bondo it already. Just lookin to do a flat black paint job but I don't want to have it rust away within a couple months. Any tips and tricks of the whole process woul be great! First time paintin a truck so it's all new and any info would be great. Again I'm tryin to do this as cheap as possible just want to make it look good! Thanks! ==wgm
I paint my race cars with tsc tractor paint, it fades, but its easy to touch up with rattle cans. If you mask it nicely it will look good.
Do you prime it and sand it before hand?
we used tsc paint and all we did was was bondo what was need and scuff up the rest . it lasted pretty good on the mud truck
Yup tractor paint, painted the reject with it and it held up to trees the next day.
yes you need to sand it to get rough stuff off and wax stuff and it gives the paint hook on to. or after time the paint will come off. we put hardern in the when we use it.
paint from TSC, it looks nice and last a long time. and aint to badly priced
Thanks for the info guys. And I was lookin to do just a simple flat black. Anyone know what the prices of them are runnin? And many cans it would take?
Also what grit sand paper do you use?
we did a cab and front clip on a dodge with a half gallon . you should be able to do it with about a gallon . maybe a little more .
we just used the sand paper what we had on hand like 120 but i dont know for sure what it was.
the gallons like $40 and you can use with or with out hardener . it drys a ton faster with it . hardener around $20 .
My only problem is I don't have a spray gun.

harbor freight - cheap, and it works
i dont sand the cars, i dont even wash them and it looks good. a QUART can paint my whole car, when thinned with naptha.

you must of used a roller to use that much paint on a front clip
Check out plasti dip. Pretty cool looking product and if ya mess it up you can just peal it off.
Just line-x the whole thing!

how much that plasti dip running? the most im going to do is just pull the mirrors off, tap off the glas and lights and whatnot, and sand it all down maybe do some crappy bondo job sense its not my strong suit. and paint it
RATTLE CAN it............and if you dont want it to fade...........then clear coat it to.
Im my opinion there really isnt a cheap way to paint and vehicle and still make it look good. .......and expect it to last.
Gonna cost a 100.00 or more depending on how ya do it.......sand it, primer it, paint it, clear coat it.
Could always brush paint it with gloss black TSC paint, will look good at ten feet away and will last a while.

prolly run around 100 with cost of the spray gun. i would think a gallon would do a car.
well i lied on the price...the larger truck/suv kit that comes with 5 gallons is $415 for a matte finish. more for gloss. comes with everything you need to do the job tho.
Well I know I wanna do a flat black. So I think a clear coat wil be to shiny ill post some pics up on how I want it to turn out
Went and looked at prices today. Gonna go with matte black from tractor supply $30 a gallon. Not sure one what to use for primer tho. Theirs some 2 an 1 rustolium primer there. But also 2 other kinds. Not sure what one to get. Prolly going to get a small can of bondo to smooth out some rust for like $15 dollars that primer is $5 a can but its only 11 oz so not sure how much of that to get. And if I'm doing that matte black I need the reducer but I don't want to put the Gardner in because I don't want it shiny.. Is that okay?
if you are going to use a spray gun use some thin in the paint.
Didnt mean Gardner lol ment hardener. But so ill be fine with just thinner? And I only need 1 gallon? Or should I do more then one coat
Use naptha to thin paint, if this is a bogger I wouldn't use a primer. Or a hardener.

O, then I take back my comment about not washing it or sanding it first, lol

lol yea im not taking it to prom, but i still want it to look somewhat good. i figure im going to use 180 or 200 grit to sand it all down and do a little bit of bondo and primer it all then the next day see how it looks maybe do some more sanding then paint but not sure if i should do 2 coats of paint or just one?
If you want the flat black look and dont have a gun id just rattle can it for now it would be alot less work for ya, but plastidip would be a good option too have seen some nice rides plastidipped and i believe if you dont like it comes off

i figure itd be cheaper to spend $30 on a gallon and barrow my buddys gun then to buy 8 cans of spray for $8 a pop. and im talking to a guy i know might have camo it out? not sure he said he would do it for $300...
dont rattle can it, you will end up using about 15 cans, and your local store will run out, and you will use three different brands of paint, and your finger will be sore and raw, lol. i rattle canned my old truck flat black, and it pretty much wore off. every time you lean on it you get black dust all over you. the tsc black fades into a nice flat black, and if you spend the time masking glass, handles, markers, grills...it should look decent.
Okay good advice there. Now TSC has matte black could I just use that with that thinner to get a flat black look?
Your gonna have to thin it regardless, that stuff won't come out of the gun straight from the can.
Yea I know that I just wasn't sure if I had to use the hardener or not.

came out the cheepo spray gun at walmart straght
So about to get paint will a gallon be enough.???!
by time you thin it you have more than a gal. i would use hardener in it. i use less than 1/2 gal on day cabs. (semi trucks)
