Title: 1 ton rear disk conversion
Post by: Jthomas on March 24, 2013, 05:58:24 AM
I've herd many different ways of going about this, all seem pretty straight forward. I just need help finding a kit cheaper than replacing the drums, shoes, springs and possible wheel cylinders.

Can I use a 1/2 ton caliper?
What kits did you guys use?

It seems like its a simple process. I saw a kit were the backing plate was bolted on, and it had threaded holes for the caliper slide pins. The only work would be getting the hub removed.

Thanks

I bought brackets from Ruffstuffspecialties.com.....Bolt on, $50 i think for the pair... Then used bare front 8 lug rotors, calipers and pads for reg 3/4 ton chevy truck.  Use your hub out of the drum with the new rotor, Easy install, nice weight savings too removing the drums..

Well worth the $$$, saves a huge head ache!
I got my brackets off ebay, like $45..  used calipers and rotors off a front GM d44..  one of the best things you can do for the money imo..

Type in caliper bracket on speedway motors. They are like $10.

But I can't  find a bolt on backing plate. Or do I not need one?

The ones i picked up came with all hardware and all the holes where drilled and taped( the ones that needed taped )
I think mine was Cutthrot off road or somthing like that..  only required minor triming with a grinder and no issues since..

Will a 15" wheel clear this setup?

I guess it depends on offset   ..  i run 15 inch rims and no issue..

I used 15" wheels with my set up,  very minor grinding on the rear calipers.  I don't remember the offset though.
